Jeanne Beker gets cancer treatment before winning Lifetime Achievement award
Jeanne Beker isn't letting cancer get the best of her.
On Thursday, the Canadian television personality took to Instagram to share a candid photo of her cancer treatment before attending the Women Empowerment Awards, which were held at the Shangri-La hotel in Toronto on Wednesday.
Beker has been a trailblazer in the fashion industry and is most known for hosting the popular "Fashion Television" show between 1985 to 2012.
The mother-of-two was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year. She has been open about her treatment process on social media, and yesterday's post was no exception.
"Gearing up for tonight’s Women Empowerment Awards with a dose of Herceptin, the miracle drug I’ll be taking intravenously every three weeks, through until next June," she revealed to her 48,000 followers. "Herceptin has been a godsend for those of us with HER2-positive breast cancer. We’re all profoundly grateful for its invention."
After the treatment, the 70-year-old swapped her hospital gown for a chic black ensemble to scoop up the prestigious Lifetime Achievement award, which is given in recognition of an individual who has made a significant impact on a large number of people during their career.
To pick up the award, Beker donned a sparkly black blazer and a matching cap. She accessorized her look with delicate necklaces and silver chunky rings. For glam, the journalist rocked a bright red lip and pitch-black lashes while her shoulder-length locks were expertly straightened.
After the event, Beker took to Instagram to share her gratitude for the award.
"About last night! Nothing could have been more joyful than being on that stage [for the Women Empowerment Awards] and seeing that roomful of gorgeous women rise to their feet to applaud me!" Beker shared. "A Lifetime Achievement award certainly does have some gravitas to it—and is even a little daunting, cause I still feel like I’ve only scratched the surface. But receiving this special, first-of-its-kind award at this particular time in my life is empowering indeed!
"Here’s wishing us all the courage to carry on, with whatever battle we’re fighting, or whatever we so love to do," she added.
In the comments, fans praised the Toronto, ON-native for her bravery and saluted her achievements.
"You are the strongest person I know...You have been a great mentor to all of us going through breast cancer!" commented a follower.
"You are a trooper and best kind of cheerleader!" shared someone else.
"Who could be a more fitting recipient of this award? You have earned this honour on every possible level! Huge congratulations to you for all those you’ve inspired and empowered with your incredible accomplishments and fearless, positive approach to life," penned a fan.
"Well deserved! Congratulations on this achievement, you've earned it," added another.
