Jamie Otis gets real about her fertility struggles: 'We are still trying!'
Jamie Otis is getting candid about her recent fertility struggles.
On Wednesday, the "Married at First Sight" alum shared an Instagram video responding to fertility advice she's received. The clip claimed that if she wants to get pregnant, she should "just stop trying so hard."
"When someone tells me to 'just stop trying so hard and you'll get pregnant,'" read the on-screen text. Otis also lip-synced to audio that sarcastically quipped: "What? Haha. OK."
The reality star paired the video with an honest caption about her recent inability to conceive. She also explained that her and her husband, Doug Hehner, will be taking action to find out why.
Otis and Hehner share two children already — a five-year-old daughter, Henley, and a two-year-old son, Hendrix. The 36-year-old explained that while she and Hehner have attempted "not trying so hard," it was ineffective.
"Let me tell ya, we've tried 'not trying so hard' and we've tried so hard — tracking my every ovulation and then getting on it...," the mother-of-two wrote. "Even without us 'trying so hard' we still get nothing in the pregnancy department."
Otis revealed that she's scheduled a doctor's appointment to get her thyroid checked.
"I have hypothyroidism and it really does affect your whole body," she explained.
Otis concluded the post by extending sympathy to anyone struggling with infertility.
"If you're struggling to get preggers (and keep it) too, we're on the same boat. I feel for you, girl. Trying to conceive can be so isolating when it takes month after month after month," she shared. "We got this!"
In the comments, fans praised Otis for her transparency.
"I love how real you are! Why isn’t everyone this honest? You got this," commented a follower.
Another wrote: "That is probably the most unhelpful advice to hear. Hoping you get pregnant very soon!"
"I can’t imagine having to read irrelevant comments on everything I post! I appreciate your vulnerability and respect the heck out of you!" another chimed in.
A fan shared: "Thank you so much for your honesty! It helps so much to know that none of us are alone in this. I hope you get pregnant soon! Hang in there."
"Love how real and open you are! You got this, queen! A baby blessing is on its way to you. Keep your head up!" shared someone else.
Last week, Otis opened up about her first pregnancy with baby Jonathan, who sadly passed away after 17 weeks in her womb.
"Everyone around me was getting pregnant and keeping their babies, but mine was gone. I felt like God was punishing me," she wrote alongside a carousel of photos, including snaps from her pregnancy announcement, hospital visits, her baby bump, and eventual miscarriage.
"I mean, all I've ever wanted was to be a mommy. I was so excited for this sweet baby boy, but he was ripped out of my life as fast as he came," Otis continued.
While Otis "didn't know" why her baby wasn't healthy, she shared that she can still "feel his presence."
