Jamie Otis shares video of 2-year-old son's seizure: 'My baby became unresponsive'
Jamie Otis is encouraging fans to trust their "mama instincts" after her son's most recent seizure.
On Wednesday, the 35-year-old "Married At First Sight" star shared a concerning video to Instagram of her two-year-old son, Hendrix, having a febrile seizure (a type of seizure triggered by fevers).
"This was just moments before my baby became unresponsive, stopped breathing and his lips turned blue," she captioned the post, adding, "We had just got done hiking the badlands in South Dakota. He seemed completely fine during our hike. He wanted to be held which was off for him, but he had no signs of being even slightly sick."
Otis explained to her more than 800,000 followers that she had a gut feeling that something was wrong but considered chalking it up to anxiety and paranoia. Otis said her son felt "a little warm" and was battling a "mild fever of 101.4 (degrees)."
"I wasn't sure if I was being 'paranoid' or 'anxious' but my mama instincts were telling me something was 'off' with him," she wrote.
The reality star revealed that because Hendrix has had febrile seizures in the past, she and her husband Doug Hehner knew the first course of action was to give him Tylenol. Although she hoped she had "caught" the fever in time, her son began to experience symptoms that differed from past experiences.
"With his previous seizures, he'd twitch a lot, moan lightly, and foam at the mouth a little or throw up a little," she recalled. "This time, his legs twitched briefly, his eyes had no focus and rolled to the back of his head, and then he stopped breathing for what seemed like forever."
While she tried to "stay calm" for the sake of her and Hehner's four-year-old daughter, Henley, she feared that her son was in serious danger. According to Otis, her son had "a grey face, blue lips and a limp body— completely unresponsive."
"I genuinely thought he was dying," she recalled.
Fortunately, after taking Hendrix to the hospital, he was returned to a stable, responsive condition.
"Mammas, even if you think you're being 'paranoid' or 'anxious,' trust your instincts," she wrote.
Fans quickly rallied behind Otis, sending their well-wishes and praising her for trusting her "mom instincts."
"Praying everything is better. I’m so sorry. This must’ve been so scary," one person commented, while another wrote, "Mother’s instincts are never wrong. So glad your sweet boy is ok."
"Always trust your mom instincts! So glad your sweet boy is okay. Praying for his full recovery!" someone added.
"Mamma instincts are right on, trust it always. I am so glad Hendrix is alright," another chimed in.
"Praying for calm after the storm mama," another said. "Using our mamma instincts is our first response in protecting our babies!"
