The Ingenious Martha Stewart Egg Hack I'm Doing This Fall (It's "So Spooky!")

Spooky season is upon us, and with Halloween right around the corner, you’re likely trying to decide what costume you (or the kids) are going to wear or what decorations you’re putting up around the house. If you’re planning on hosting a Halloween party, you’ll want a spread filled with ghoulish treats that fit the theme to match. (We’re talking ghost cookies, mummy hot dogs, and graveyard cake.)

Martha Stewart, Queen of Halloween (her costumes always hit it out of the park), has the perfect recipe that’ll make your guests think you’re as masterful at crafts as she is: spider web eggs.

These hard-boiled eggs are decked out with an intricate spider web design, but all the hard work is done in the pot. So what’s the secret? Blueberries. That’s right — these spooky treats are all natural and don’t use any food coloring or dyes.

All you need to do is place frozen blueberries in the pot of water used to cook the eggs. (Be sure to place the eggs in a single layer.) After 10 minutes of boiling, remove the eggs and crack each shell ever so gently using a whisk or wooden spoon. (You don’t want to remove the shell completely at this point!)

Next, place the eggs in a bowl, cover them back up with the blueberry cooking water, and let them cool completely in the fridge. The blueberry water will seep into the cracks, dying the little spaces and resulting in this spine-chilling spider web pattern.

Once you’re ready to serve, simply peel and reveal the effect. Your guests are sure to be impressed, and no one has to know the trick besides us — and Martha. (These eggs would also make a great addition to this Halloween snack board.)
