Influencer Bree Lenehan gets real about weight gain: 'Does it really matter?'
Bree Lenehan is on a mission to help you live your best life.
On Wednesday, the 26-year-old took to Instagram to post a body positive video telling her 668,000 followers that "life is much more than the way your body looks."
The self-love advocate uses her platform to combat the diet industry and expose the tricks social media stars use to make their bodies look a certain way, which experts believe can trigger eating disorders and depression among young people.
In the clip, Lenehan filmed herself eating at different restaurants followed by an image of the universe. The words: 'Does it really matter?" appeared on the screen as a reminder that at the end of the day, we will remember "special memories" and not the size of our bodies.
In the caption, the Australian influencer opened up about how our bodies change over time, and that weight gain is nothing to be ashamed of.
"Gaining weight doesn’t always = unhealthy or bad either. Bodies change, it’s inevitable. One day, if you’re lucky enough to grow life or grow old, your body will expand, wrinkle, sag, loosen, become frail, overcome challenges, heal sicknesses and change dramatically," she wrote. "One day you’ll look back and I hope you won’t regret missing out on special memories because you were afraid of a burger or your body changing."
Lenehan also encouraged her followers to have a healthier relationship with their bodies.
"I personally believe life is about balance... It’s about watering the plants that matter to you. ... I’m just leaving this here to encourage you to have a healthier, happier relationship with food and your body image," she added.
In the comments, fans praised her empowering message and thanked her for opening up about this important topic.
"Life’s already so short, let’s not waste any time!" wrote a follower.
"Wow, I love this so much! This is very inspiring and really effective," added another.
"Love this reminder. As humans we are so much more than our bodies. We are smart, beautiful, kind and caring and no one will remember how much you weigh if you just focus on being a good person and living your best life," shared someone else.
Earlier this week, Lenehan explained that it's never too late to take control of your life in a candid Instagram post about not comparing yourself to what you see online.
"I have some good news... You’re not on your deathbed. You’re capable of doing anything you put your mind to! You’re in the perfect position to start living and stop hiding," she said. "And if you’re not happy with your current lifestyle or mindset around your body image, you are the only person in control of making those positive changes for yourself."
