I just went through menopause — I swear by this $17 Aveeno firming body cream for my dry, saggy skin

Skin toning cream that has helped my post-menopausal skin.

When I was put into medical menopause at 41 as part of my breast cancer treatment, it felt like my skin changed overnight. I went from having toned, smooth skin that I was proud to flaunt to rough, dry, sagging skin.

Wrinkles and lines popped up all over my face, and the word “jowl” became part of my vocabulary. But it wasn't just my face that started to change — my once-smooth arms also appeared rougher.

I began searching for firming body creams, and after trying a few pricier options, I landed on Aveeno's Overnight Cream, available on Amazon Canada, which has since become a regular part of my nighttime routine. My skin feels and looks smoother, and as long as I use it every single day, I continue to notice improvements. It's not a product you can be lazy about — but if you're prepared to commit to regular use, I think you'll be as impressed as I have been. Scroll below to read more about why this cream is included in my list of menopausal must-haves.

This non-greasy, fast-absorbing, thick overnight cream is a great option for all skin types — even sensitive skin. Apply this rich formula to freshly cleansed skin before bed to help smooth rough skin overnight.

Containing six per cent natural PHA, niacinamide and prebiotic oat, this cream is made with no added fragrances, parabens or dyes.

If you are someone who has bumpy skin (keratosis pilaris) or discoloured, uneven skin tone, this exfoliating cream is also a great option.

Trusted brand: Since my days of cystic acne, I have been a huge fan of the dermatologist-recommended, non-comedogenic Aveeno brand. I've never purchased a product from them that has ever irritated my sensitive skin, and this one is no exception.

Super affordable: Coming in under $20, this 227g container will go a long way. It also goes on sale often — so keep a look out for any bargains.

Works overnight: It's so exciting to know that the cream is working hard while I sleep. I get a thrill inspecting my skin in the morning and am always impressed with what I see. I love products that can work their magic at night.

No parabens or dyes: I appreciate that the product doesn't have any added parabens or dyes and is made with prebiotic oat.

It may be fragrance-free, but there's definitely some odour: I don't know if it's the oat, but this cream smells a bit like the white glue my son uses on his projects at school. It absorbs quickly and it doesn't smell too bad when it's on your skin, but when applying, you will for sure notice a less-than-pleasant aroma.

It looks a bit like cake batter: OK, this may not be a deal breaker for many, but between the glue-like smell and the gloppy texture, I was a bit reluctant the first time I opened the container. I'm used to a more solid cream, but looks can be deceiving. That said, it went on great and absorbed quickly — so don't judge a book by its cover.

This Amazon's Choice product has an average 4.3-star rating, with many shoppers praising its affordable price and effectiveness.

One reviewer said that it "makes skin so soft." They put it on nightly after showering and wake up each morning to "extremely soft, smooth skin." They did mention that "the only downside is that it smells like glue," but that you "don't notice" the smell once you have applied the cream to your body.

Another shopper loved the "unscented cream," appreciating its "gentle moisturizing formula."

Another person mentioned that it "compares favourably to more expensive creams," calling it a "very nice night cream."

Is the product a bit gloppy and does it have a glue-like aroma? Yes. Yes, it does. But, IMO, that's all moot because the cream truly works. I use it every day and I've definitely noticed an improvement in my skin — and, in fact, I'm even starting to come around to its Elmer's-like patina.

I do find that it works much better on freshly cleansed skin and I wouldn't recommend putting it on over another moisturizer. In my experience, the results are best when I take a shower and then apply the cream to my dry skin. It absorbs very quickly — so no concerns when it comes to getting it on your PJs or sheets. Just remember, while your skin does feel better after just one use, it will take at least a month to see long-term results — so be consistent. This is a long-game product — but trust me, if you stick it out, I think you'll be as thrilled as me.
