Golden Globes 2024: Who was the best and worst dressed? This is what Yahoo readers think
The good, the bad and the "Barbie."
The 2024 Golden Globes may have "bombed harder than Oppenheimer" but the red carpet was the fashion equivalent of a "Barbie" dreamland.
As Hollywood's biggest stars flocked inside the Beverly Hilton Hotel for the awards ceremony, our team of editors went to work to sift through the memorable fashion moments from the red carpet. While there were so many standout fashion moments (perhaps more than previous red carpets), we managed to narrow the crop down to our picks for best and worst dressed — and then asked our readers to cast their vote.
Yahoo Canada readers have spoken, and a Golden Globes red carpet winner and loser have been declared.
BEST: Natalie Portman in Dior Haute Couture
Natalie Portman's sparkling Dior Haute Couture gown was a hit with Yahoo Canada readers. The 42-year-old star may have lost the award for Best Actress Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for her role in "May December" but she is officially queen of the red carpet.
The Dior ambassador stepped out in a black tulle gown that featured thousands of sequins and beads to create a floral impressionist-inspired masterpiece. The look earned 33 per cent of votes in our best dressed poll.
“My dress was hand-beaded and took hundreds of hours of work, so I’m really lucky to get to wear this, it’s like a garden on a dress,” Portman told WWD.
Portman's look featured teardrop earrings by De Beers and Jimmy Choo heels.
RUNNER-UP: Margot Robbie in Giorgio Armani
Our readers ranked Margot Robbie's hot pink Giorgio Armani a close second with 29 per cent of votes in our best dressed poll.
The 33-year-old actress and producer hit the red carpet in a custom look replicating the dress worn by 1977 SuperStar Barbie and $3 million USD worth of Lorraine Schwartz Jewelry. The look followed Robbie's and stylist Andrew Mukamal's mission of wearing iconic Barbie looks on the red carpet to celebrate her blockbuster film. Armani created a second look in black for Robbie to wear to the Golden Globes afterparties.
WORST: Billie Eilish in Willy Chavarria
Oh Billie. Even when she wins she loses. Although the "What Was I Made For?" singer took home the Golden Globe for Best Original Song, Yahoo Canada readers have declared her the worst dressed star from this year's awards.
Despite earning points for staying true to her own sense of style, the look was not a hit with readers. Eilish received 74 per cent of votes in our worst dressed poll.
The 22-year-old opted for a pleated Willy Chavarria skirt, oversized blazer, pink socks and thrifted Mary Jane heels to the red carpet. Eilish added a ribbon as a tie she was gifted for her birthday to complete the look.
RUNNER-UP: Karen Gillan in Iris Van Herpen
"Guardians of the Galaxy" star Karen Gillan's bold Iris van Herpen look was a swing and a miss for Yahoo Canada readers. The Scottish star earned 10 per cent of votes in our worst dressed poll, with readers clearly not fans of her unique black and white look from the Dutch designer's Autumn/Winter 2021 collection.
While the look is certainly a work of art, it doesn't lend itself to traditional red carpet fare.
