Glitter makeup may be making a comeback

After glitter beards and glitter armpits, glitter makeup shouldn’t seem like a big surprise. But unlike the ones that came before it, this latest trend isn’t only happening on social media.
Earlier this month, British actress Suki Waterhouse walked the red carpet at the London premiere of “Pride And Prejudice And Zombies” with what some beauty bloggers have referred to as “glitter tears.” On Wednesday, Elle Fanning followed suit with her own spattering of eye glitter at the Saint Laurent show in Hollywood.

While performers like Katy Perry and Kesha have been dousing themselves in glitter for years, this is the first time in years that we’ve seen this bold an application being used in a mainstream setting.
Wendy Rowe, Waterhouse’s makeup artist, explained that the glitter helped keep the actresses makeup look “fresh.”
“Suki’s dress (by Reem Acra) was very pretty, so to keep the look cool, young and beautiful the makeup needed to be fresh,” Rowe explains on her website.
“We added some gold glitter under the eye, like a tear drop. It wasn’t massively obvious but it added to the look.”
For Fanning’s look, makeup artist Erin Ayanian Monroe used Makeup Forever black cream stick topped with their silver and gold glitter. She described the look as “rock ‘n roll.”
