Gabrielle Union and daughter twin in adorable video: 'Dynamic duo'
Gabrielle Union and her daughter are "twinnin' and grinnin'" — and looking so cute.
On Monday, the 49-year-old took to Instagram to share a sun-soaked clip of herself and her three-year-old daughter, whom she shares with her husband, Dwayne Wade, dancing in matching swimsuits.
"Me and @kaaviajames twinnin' and grinnin'. Big 4th of July/Hot Links/Rose energy," she captioned the post, with "Dynamic duo," written at the bottom of the video.
Fans quickly praised the "Bring It On" actress for sharing the adorable mother-daughter moment and applauded the duo for their matching swimwear.
One Instagram user wrote: "This is so cute! You're such a great mama. Kaavia is lucky to have you!! Love the matching mother-daughter bathing suits too so precious!"
"She’s growing up with her best friend!" another added.
"Love the swimsuits! So cute," another wrote.
"Twinning!" someone else commented.
"One of my favourite duos," another chimed in.
One fan pointed out: "She is having so much fun with her baby!"
Union is also a parent to Wade's other three children, Zaire, 20, Zaya, 15, and Xavier, 8. In an appearance on the "We Can Do Hard Things with Glennon Doyle" podcast in November 2021, the actress opened up about feeling irritated about being referred to as a "stepparent."
“The stepparent label was put on me by the kids’ school because you have to describe yourself: Who are you if you’re not their mother?" she explained. "It’s very annoying. It’s not a word that I use.”
The close relationship Union has with Wade's other children was something that took time to develop.
“I wanted to make sure I was consistent in their lives,” she recalled. “Whatever personality I was trying on that day, or whoever I was, I just needed to be consistent so they can get used to me."
Union said she was conscious that Wade's children were still coping with their parents' divorce when Union and Wade tied the knot.
"They’ve already gone through so much upheaval, moving states away, not knowing anyone, having gone through a divorce. I knew I needed to be consistent," she explained. "I just didn’t know what my role was...I knew that when I married him, I was married to them."
Even though it was never her intention, she learned it would be impossible for her to replace their mother.
“What I realized very quickly is you will never, ever, I don’t care if the other parent is dead, you will never be able to replace the other parent," she said. "If you’re a disciplinarian in your own life, continue to be that. Just be consistent so they know who you are."
