ET Canada host Sangita Patel shares health scare: 'Putting things in perspective'
The Canadian TV personality revealed she's looking into a four-centimetre nodule in her throat.
Sangita Patel is sharing a health scare with her followers that lead her to "putting things in perspective."
The "ET Canada" host took to Instagram Wednesday evening with a reel of clips recorded as Patel investigated a four-centimetre throat nodule.
In the caption of her post, Patel said she noticed a lump in her throat months ago, which eventually became bigger and someone pointed it out in one of her Instagram stories.
"I went to my [doctor] and yup, they told me to get an ultrasound — it was nodule on my thyroid," Patel wrote.
The 44-year-old TV personality said in her reel, which she filmed sitting in her car outside of a hospital just before her biopsy, she was a bit scared. This was despite first thinking it was "no biggie," she confessed.
"I'm scared of needles, and it's hitting me right now what we're doing and why we're doing a biopsy," she talked to the camera. One hour later, she came back to record she got two needles in her throat and "hated" it, adding it would take a week for the results.
"I just have to be patient and hopefully I don't hear the c-word and figure out what to do afterwards... It's definitely putting things in perspective."
As the screen cut to a "one week later" text, Patel told her fans she received a "great" call.
"The biopsy is benign," she said with a smile. "We don't have to use the C-word. Now, step two: Do we keep this guy, get rid of half of it?"
Patel admitted she didn't want to do surgery, but already feels better knowing it's not cancerous.
"Just a sense of relief. It really is."
She said in the caption thyroid issues are "very common" among women. "Don’t be like me and think 'no biggie,' get that s—- checked out!"
Other Canadian TV personalities reached out to show their support.
Fellow ET host Cheryl Hickey commented: "The best news! So happy [you're] on it."
CP24 Breakfast host Melissa Grelo chimed in to say, "I am so relieved for you! Been thinking of you lots these past weeks!"
Some of Patel's followers shared their experiences with thyroid problems.
"Had the same diagnosis. Had the biopsy. Benign but decided to have the unknown cell half of my thyroid removed as a precaution," one person wrote. "Glad I did. Happy your results were good too."
Another called it "fabulous news," adding "As a thyroid cancer survivor I get it! Glad you are OK," in the comments.
"Went through this. It was the C word. They caught it early and did surgery right away. Ten years later my neck scar is a good reminder to be good to yourself and live life!," one person shared.
"I experienced the very same thing in 2013. Had my thyroid removed and the pathology came back as cancer. Scary! But, now, I’m 10 years cancer free!," someone else penned.
