Elliot Page shares passport photo with fans: 'Never thought I would love a passport photo'
Elliot Page finally has a passport photo that he loves.
Recently, the "Umbrella Academy" star took to Instagram to share his first passport photo since transitioning.
"Never thought I would love a passport photo," the Canadian actor captioned the snap for his more than 6 million followers.
His post was quickly met with supportive messages, celebrating the milestone moment.
"Handsome! Thank you for fighting for trans rights. It keeps us all safe," one Instagram user penned, while another chimed in, "Love this passport photo. King."
"I remember seeing my first passport photo after transitioning and feeling so happy. Congrats buddy!" someone else wrote.
"So happy for you!" another shared.
"So thrilled for you!" wrote another. "I just got my new passport with the sex marked as 'X' for nonbinary, and it is a true thrill!"
"I am so happy for you, Elliot," one fan commented.
Another person added: "You nailed it, brother, I wish I was that brave!"
The 35-year-old came out as transgender back in 2020. He shared the news with his Instagram followers in an emotional open letter.
“Hi friends, I want to share with you that I am trans, my pronouns are he/they, and my name is Elliot," he wrote at the time.
"I feel lucky to be writing this. To be here. To have arrived at this place in my life. I feel overwhelming gratitude for the incredible people who have supported me along this journey. I can’t begin to express how remarkable it feels to finally love who I am enough to pursue my authentic self. I’ve been endlessly inspired by so many in the trans community," he continued.
Earlier this year, Page opened up to Esquire about the challenges he has faced during his career.
One troubling incident the star recalled was being forced to wear a dress and heels while at the premiere for "Juno" at the Toronto International Film Festival. At the time, he told the studio, Fox Searchlight, he wanted to wear a suit, but he was rushed into a newly-bought dress while he watched co-star Michael Cera wear simple slacks and sneakers.
"When 'Juno' was at the height of its popularity, during awards season time, I was closeted, dressed in heels and the whole look — I wasn’t OK, and I didn’t know how to talk about that with anyone," Page explained.
"I wish people would understand that that shit literally did almost kill me," he said.
