Demi Moore says stress caused her teeth to fall out: Is that possible?
At 54-years-old, Demi Moore is clearly still a stunning woman — with long flowing dark locks, smooth skin and a (near) flawless smile. In a recent appearance on “The Tonight Show,” Moore told Jimmy Fallon that she recently lost her two front teeth.
“So you lost your front tooth?” Fallon asked.
“Both actually. But the picture is only minus one,” she said, before Fallon shared a snap of a gap-toothed Moore, as well as a filtered Snapchat video of the actress at the dentist.
“I literally knocked it out. It was almost like it fell out and my warranty was up,” she cheekily added.

More said that her children love seeing her without teeth, as it makes her seem “more vulnerable and human.”
And although she’d love to say she sheered her teeth due to skateboarding “or something really cool,” it was much more complex than that: “Because I think it’s, probably after heart disease, one of the biggest killers in America, which is stress. But in an effort to get ready for you, I wanted to make sure that my teeth were in,” she opened up. “Thank God for modern dentistry.”
There was a lot of giggling going on so some thought Moore was joking, but as it turns out you can loose teeth due to stress. Sort of.
“Stress is associated with dental disease and can cause your teeth to fall out, but not in the sense Demi Moore presented it,” said Anaida Deti, a registered dental hygienist and CEO of DentalX. She told Yahoo Canada that your body will first show signs of duress prior to any tooth loss.

“Teeth grinding, which derives from stress, can cause bleeding gums, painful teeth and a sore jaw — just a few signs that should be given immediate attention. People can clench and grind their teeth to an extent that they not only loosen, but destroy the supporting bone,” said Deti.
If you’re under stress and notice any of the above signs, you should seek immediate dental attention.
“If your dentist notices something is off, he or she will take action, and may make a plastic mouth guard to protect the teeth from trauma, which is worn at night,” Deti noted. “Patients should seek healthy ways to relieve stress through exercise, a balanced diet, plenty of sleep, maintaining a positive mental attitude, no smoking, good oral hygiene and regular dental check-ups.”
