Dan O'Toole marks 2 years of sobriety with 'powerful' before and after photos
"Two years ago I woke up and said three words: 'I need help,'" the Canadian sportscaster wrote.
Dan O'Toole is celebrating his sobriety.
On Thursday, the former TSN sports anchor, 47, took to Instagram to mark two years of sobriety with a set of before-and-after photos showing off his "powerful" transformation.
The "Canadian "SportsCentre" personality paired the photos with a caption opening up about feeling "grateful" for his decision to get help and for his loved ones who have supported his journey.
"Two pictures. Two years apart. Two years sober. Two years ago I woke up and said three words: ‘I need help.’ Saying those three words changed my life," he penned to his more than 59,000 followers.
"I wake up today full of gratitude, surrounded by people that want nothing from me, just for me to be loved and supported," he added. "And the best part, I am present to enjoy all of it."
O'Toole's post was met with supportive and congratulatory messages praising his milestone.
"This is so powerful. Thank you for sharing and for being so real," an Instagram user commented. "You're an inspiration and we're proud of you!"
Another wrote: "Well done my friend! It's tough to stay on the right path, but every day you continue is a victory."
"So amazing, Dan! So happy for you and your family," someone else added.
"So proud of you! You’ve never looked better!" a fan chimed in.
Another person commented: "Incredible. Congratulations on two years!"
The television host also opened up in January 2022 about his sobriety in an interview with the Daily Hive.
He explained that after being "ousted" from his job at "TSN" he attended a treatment centre, calling it a “complete overhaul of my lifestyle.”
“I’m taking out all of that stuff, even like a glass of wine or smoking a joint here and there,” he said. “I’ve got the focus on what I needed it to be on and what I needed to change.”
“It took me 46 years to be the most present I’ve ever been,” O’Toole continued. “I mentally and physically feel the best I’ve ever probably felt in my life.”
