Cheryl Hickey reflects on 'new beginnings' after 'ET Canada' with 'inspiring' letter
The Canadian TV host is reminding people they're more than their careers, after "ET Canada" was cancelled.
Cheryl Hickey is opening up about the recent "big" life changes she's navigating.
On Monday, the former "ET Canada" host took to Instagram to share a heartfelt message about embracing change and moving forward in life. The Owen Sound, Ont. native's message follows the long-running entertainment show's cancellation, where she had been a beloved on-air host for more than a decade.
In a series of screenshots, Hickey wrote about her life after "ET Canada," and how she's been showing up for herself — and her loved ones.
She began by addressing people who might be struggling in a similar way, saying, "If you are struggling after a life change, this post is for you."
Hickey highlighted that while life transitions can be challenging, they can sometimes offer opportunities for personal growth.
"Your job is not you, you are you and nobody can take that away," she wrote, reminding her followers their worth goes beyond their professional roles.
Hickey revealed that since the show's cancellation last month, she has continued to pursue professional opportunities to set a positive example for her children. Since leaving "ET Canada," she's hosted a couple of events, shot some campaigns and presented at an awards show.
She noted the end of an era is only the start of a new one and nothing to feel embarrassed about, adding that you're still a person with all of the same qualities you've offered before.
"You still get to walk away a whole person with all the gifts you had given that job for however many years," she penned. "You can take your spirit and experience and launch it into the next thing, show, experience or adventure."
"Choose to show up in your life for you, or for the little people watching you transition."
Fans met Hickey's post with supportive comments praising her resilience.
"You're so strong for handling this big change so well," an Instagram user wrote. "It's just a job, yes, but it was something you did for many years and was a huge part of your life. It's very hard to have your life uprooted like that and still put on a brave face for your little ones. Thank you for sharing!"
"Cheryl, you are an inspiration to so many," another added. "Your words give many of us the power to move forward and staying positive. Thank you."
"Love this. Never stop sharing your inspiring thoughts to help others," a fan shared.
"'Your job is not you' really hit home for me, thank you for reminding me," commented another.
In September, Corus Entertainment announced the discontinuation of the long-running Canadian arts and entertainment news show after 18 seasons. The decision was attributed to a "challenging advertising environment."
"ET Canada" originally launched in 2005, providing a unique Canadian perspective on the entertainment industry with hosts including Rick Campanelli, Keshia Chanté and Sangita Patel.
