Celebrity fashion of the week: 51% of Yahoo Canada readers voted this singer as the best-dressed star
There were lots of great looks from A-list stars this past week — and some unfortunate fashion duds.
It's been an exciting week for celebrity fashion, with gorgeous fits gracing the 2024 Tony Awards's red carpet to more eclectic pieces showing up at the recent Tribeca Film Festival. From actresses like Jessica Chastain and Nicola Coughlan to singers including Kelly Clarkson and Rihanna, several stars got full-on dolled up at various events.
Prior to the weekend, we asked Yahoo Canada readers to vote on which celebrities they considered to be the best and worst-dressed star of the week. For our best-dressed list, we included Clarkson, Maya Hawke, Jodie Comer, Nicola Coughlan and Simone Ashley; our worst-dressed list, we put up Rihanna, Chastain, Blake Lively, Kristen Wiig and Nia Long. As promised, here's what people had to say when it came to our beloved stars over the past few days.
BEST DRESSED WINNER: Kelly Clarkson
Kelly Clarkson took home the award for Daytime Talk Series at the 51st Daytime Emmy Awards, and she also snagged our best-dressed celebrity pick of the week. The singer and TV host won 51 per cent of more than 600 votes for her fitted hot pink Alex Perry gown. The 42-year-old's gown had a touch of drama with open-slit sleeves and shoulder pads, and its satin material brought a sense of glamour that made the "Stronger" songstress shine.
Stylist Micaela Erlanger crafted the look, putting Clarkson in matching teardrop jewel earrings and a stunning make-up look that featured a lip colour that matched her gown. Finally, the "Because Of You" singer's brown locks were pulled back into a low bun, and teased enough to feature a hair bump.
In our secondary poll for Clarkson, 70 per cent of more than 500 votes agreed the star's look was a great choice. Out of those voters, 22 per cent were uncertain of their thoughts, while eight per cent thought she looked bad.
BEST DRESSED RUNNER UP: Jodie Comer
Jodie Comer's ravishing custom Vivienne Westwood burgundy gown she wore at a London screening of "The Bikeriders" paid off — the star was our best-dressed runner up this week. Out of more than 600 votes, 17 per cent of readers believed the 31-year-old English actress was the best dressed.
The "Killing Eve" star chose a clean and classy look for the event, which featured a corsetted fit and an off-the-shoulder neckline. She paired it with gold Jimmy Choo Rosie sandals, along with simple tiny earrings from Frida and Florence.
Out of more than 500 votes from our secondary poll, 69 per cent of people said they liked the look. On the other hand, 23 per cent were in between, while eight per cent weren't huge fans of this outfit.
WORST DRESSED WINNER: Rihanna
Rihanna might be one of the most beloved star's in the world, but the singer-turned-businesswoman unfortunately snatched our worst-dressed celebrity of the week spot. The "Umbrella" artist received 44 per cent of more than 500 votes in that poll.
Arriving at the Rihanna x Fenty Hair launch party in Los Angeles, the 36-year-old wore a baggy half-zippered leather jacket and a matching maxi pencil skirt by Khaite. She paired the look with matching red heels, as well as ruby and diamond jewelry by Sabyasachi, David Webb and Reza. Finally, the singer topped off her look with natural blonde cropped curls.
People were quite certain that they didn't enjoy this look, according to our secondary poll. With more than 550 votes, 72 per cent of people were not fans. However, 19 per cent were in between and nine per cent loved the look.
WORST DRESSED RUNNER UP: Blake Lively
As our runner-up queen for worst-dressed celebrity, Blake Lively won by a thin margin. The 36-year-old actress received 17 per cent of more than 500 votes for a multi-coloured Chanel suit that resembled a pair of pyjamas.
The "Gossip Girl" alum wore the loud piece at Chanel's 17th annual Tribeca Festival Artists Dinner, a look that first debuted in the fashion house's spring/summer 2024 collection. Lively's nails, designed by Japanese nail artist Mei Kawajiri, all featured intricate illustrations that match the garment. The star accessorized with several rings, letting her wavy hair flow long over her shoulders.
In our secondary poll, a majority of more than 540 voters agreed she wasn't dressed to the nines. Out of those votes, 75 per cent of people noted they didn't like the outfit. On the other hand, 16 per cent were unsure of the suit, while nine per cent indicated they loved it.
