On Tuesday, the Canadian influencer challenged societal beauty standards with an Instagram post, proudly showing off two photos, comparing her body before and after gaining weight.
She paired the photos with a body-positive caption assuring her followers that "weight gain is not the end of the world."
Brenna explained the misconceptions surrounding her statement.
"I always get a lot of flack in my DMs for saying 'it's okay to gain weight.' What people usually hear is: 'You're allowed to be lazy.' 'You're allowed to eat like garbage.' 'You're allowed to not care about your health.' 'You're allowed to let yourself go,' and no one is saying that," she penned.
"What I mean when I say 'you're allowed to gain weight' is you're allowed to give your body compassion and acceptance for existing however it exists," Brenna clarified.
She acknowledged the challenges of change and the stigma associated with weight gain.
"Your body does not have to be a vessel for your hate. You are allowed to shift your shape. Life does not stop at a size 12," she wrote. "You are still beautiful and wonderful."
In the comments, Brenna's commitment to promoting self-love and body acceptance garnered praise from fans.
"Making me feel like a boss in my own skin again," an Instagram user wrote. "Thanks for always flooding positivity into the world!"
"Thank you for this," someone else chimed in.
One person commented: "I so needed to see this today. Thank you so much."
"Love this so much, and you're beautiful in both pictures!," another wrote.
In February, the Vancouver-based content creator shared another powerful note, about what one should and shouldn't say if a friend says they "feel fat."
"If your friend ever looks in the mirror and says, 'I feel so fat,' please don't rush to respond with, 'no you aren't! You are beautiful,'" she wrote. "Try: 'What other feeling words could you use right now? If you were fat, how would that make you feel? Is something else going on?'"
She urged her fans to ask their friends "what's going on right now in their life," and try to "relate to them."
"Ask them who they look up to and why? Maybe introduce them to other people to broaden their mind a bit. This, too, is medicine," Brenna recommended.
