'What is wrong with people?': Calgary TV host applauded after shutting down pregnancy rumours on-air
Global News Calgary anchor Leslie Horton garnered praise for her empowering response to a viewer's pregnancy inquiry.
A Canadian TV host isn't letting a viewer's body shaming get to her.
While recently live on-air, Global News Calgary anchor Leslie Horton addressed a viewer's body shaming and fashion critique in a powerful response, as she also shed light on the importance of respecting people in the media industry.
"I'm just going to respond to an email that I just got saying, 'Congratulations on your pregnancy. If you're going to wear old bus driver pants, you have to expect emails like this,'" Horton read on live TV.
The Vancouver-born journalist responded, saying, "No, I'm not pregnant. I actually lost my uterus to cancer last year, and this is what women of my age look like. So, if it's offensive to you, that is unfortunate. Think about the emails you send."
The emotional moment was shared by a TikTok user earlier this week, capturing Horton's powerful response to the viewer's insensitive email.
"This just makes me so mad. How dare someone reach out and say something so sh—y," the poster captioned their clip.
The TikTok video has garnered more than 420,000 views and accumulated over 50,000 likes. It has also attracted more than 15,000 comments, with numerous social media users expressing admiration for Horton's response.
"I loved her response! Who in their right mind feels they need to criticize like this? Love you, Leslie Horton," one TikTok user wrote.
"What makes people think they can say what they want to just because they're hiding behind a screen!? Leslie handled that like a boss," another person penned in the comments section.
"I have so much respect for her. What is wrong with people? Such a hateful thing to say, type and then actually send," another viewer added.
Horton acknowledged the outpouring of support she received on X — previously known as Twitter — and expressed gratitude for the encouraging messages.
"Thanks for all your kind messages this morning. It took me hours to stop shaking... but I'm shaking it off and setting up for [a] cookie sale tomorrow!" Horton wrote.

Leslie you are such a kind soul! People can be so cruel for absolutely no reason and it seems the nicest people are always the ones that have to take it.
Keep smiling and making people laugh! You are amazing! ♥️— Colie Stevenson (@colie_stevenson) November 30, 2023
It takes a small person to insult another person. You are a bright light for the people of Calgary (&area). Love watching every single morning!🌸

So proud of you for speaking out & publicly shaming that loser. I’m so sick of the people who think they have some right to comment on women’s bodies or insult other people. People like that have the weakest of character & to see you stand you for yourself was really empowering❤️
