Avril Lavigne is a 'modern icon' in new pop punk photoshoot: 'A true legend'
Avril Lavigne's reputation as the pop punk queen has earned her a new title in the latest edition of Alternative Press.
For the magazine's March 2022's "Modern Icons Issue," the 37-year-old Canadian singer spoke with fellow artist Rico Nasty about her career in music — and fans are loving it.
Lavigne took to Instagram on Tuesday to share a set of photos from the issue for her more than 10 million followers with the caption: "F—- yes, Alternative Press!"
The "Sk8er Boi" singer's post was met with praise from fans for the star's latest cover.
"I wholeheartedly agree, you are a modern icon, Miss Avril. Never change," one fan commented.
"Our modern icon," another agreed.
"Love these photos so much. You're so beautiful and ageless! A true legend," someone else added.
"This photoshoot! OMG!" another fan replied.
In the accompanying interview, Lavigne opened up about staying true to herself.
"I’ve always been pretty good about keeping it real," she said. "And I’ve always been pretty unapologetic about it. It’s a different time now."
Lavigne said that there is a common misconception that she's going to be mean and people are often surprised that she's friendly and kind. The singer said she's had to become "tough" to make it in the music industry.
"I’m stubborn and strong-willed and strong-minded, and if I feel a certain way, I stick to it. I’m constantly fighting. I’ve been fighting since day one to write my own songs," she said. "I had to fight my whole career to write the type of music I wanted to write."
"Sometimes labels would give me pushback and didn’t understand my vision," Lavigne added. "I had to always fight, and fight on each album to keep going in the musical direction I wanted to go, even if they’re trying to sway me another way."
