Avril Lavigne hits the red carpet in edgy punk-inspired gown: 'Obsessed with this whole look'
The 39-year-old Canadian singer brought her signature style to Elton John's annual Oscars viewing party.
Avril Lavigne pulled out all the fashion stops to raise money for a good cause.
On Sunday, the Canadian singer hit the Oscar party circuit to attend the Elton John AIDS Foundation's 32nd annual Academy Awards viewing party in West Hollywood. Lavigne mixed and mingled with singer Kesha, "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star Kyle Richards at the star-studded event, which raised more than $10.8 million USD to help prevent the spread of AIDS.
The "Sk8er Boi" singer hit the red carpet in a sheer, black long-sleeve fitted lace mermaid gown from Vetements that featured built-in lace gloves. Lavigne paired the dress with black platform booties, mermaid waves and a heavy punk-inspired smokey eye. The 39-year-old arrived alongside Vetements creative director, Guram Gvasalia, whose designs helped the star elevate her signature style for Hollywood's biggest night.
Lavigne shared outfit details from the event to Instagram on Monday with the caption "Last night."
Fans flooded Lavigne's post with comments swooning over her ensemble.
Paris Hilton chimed in with a lovestruck emoji, while another Instagram user penned: "Girl, you do not age. It's actually insane. This look is incredible. You're unreal. I love that you never change your style. Truly authentic."
"Girl, I'm obsessed with this whole look," someone else added.
"Your hair looks so beautiful like this!" another commented.
"Avril! This dress looks so good on you," a fan shared.
Whether its the Grammys, the Junos or New York Fashion Week, the "When You're Gone" singer has always ensured her looks maintain aspects of pop-punk culture her fans have come to know and love. Even though she's graduated from Dickies and men's ties, there's always been an authenticity to Lavigne's wardrobe, even when she's sporting pricey designer pieces.
Back in September, Lavigne showcased her updated signature style after sharing two sets of photos of her looks from New York Fashion Week.
In the first set of photos, Lavigne ditched her former long bob hairstyle and wore an extra-long, sleek wig. She struck a pose alongside the likes of Janet Jackson, Kesha and fashion designer Christian Siriano.
She also wore a long black leather coat with puffy ruched sleeves, wide-leg pants and a black lace top.
"Congrats on 15 incredible years," she wrote in the caption. "Watching the show was a surreal experience and you nailed every detail. You fused together fashion and music seamlessly. Working with you before the event was so easy and the intention you put into every detail was not missed."
