My partner is a professional chef and he is obsessed with this $50 Amazon knife — so I put it to the test.

Whether you're an avid at-home chef or consider cheese and crackers a gourmet meal, every kitchen toolkit should include a good quality knife.

Luckily, for those looking to stay on budget, quality and cost don't necessarily have to go hand-in-hand. The Cutluxe Chef's Knife, for example, rings in at just $50, and according to cooking pros (and myself), it slices through produce, proteins and cheeses like "cutting through the wind." This razor-sharp 8" chef's knife is forged from high-carbon German steel at 56+ Rockwell hardness. It's a full-tang knife, meaning the blade's steel extends to the end of the handle. It also has an ergonomic handle that's rust and stain-resistant for added durability.


The Cutluxe chef's knife is exceptionally sharp — almost dangerously so. To compare, I own the MASTER Chef Edgekeeper Stainless Steel Chef's Knife, which, while sharp, doesn't hold a candle to the Cutluxe knife.

My partner is a professional chef (and a nerd), and in his words, the knife is "like a Katana blade cutting through the wind."

The grip is "solid and comfortable," and it "glides through vegetables effortlessly," he says. Overall, it's a "great tool for a chef or at-home cook" — it's "really, really good." You heard it here first, folks!

Every time I've used the knife to meal prep, be it vegetables, herbs, meat or cheese, it slices like butter; really, truly, like butter.

I've only ever washed the knife by hand, so I can't report how it weathers the dishwasher. However, even if you have to handwash, it only takes seconds.


I have only one real gripe with the knife — I really don't like its sheath. It's really thin and looks and feels like cheap plastic, which is concerning considering how sharp the blade is. If you have a knife block or magnetic holder, it will come in handy with the Cutluxe knife. Otherwise, it feels like a game of Russian roulette whenever you put your hand in the utensil drawer.


I'd love for you to take my word for it, but you don't have to. More than 900 Amazon reviewers have given the Cutluxe Chef's Knife a perfect five-star rating, averaging its total score to 4.6 out of 5 stars.

The knife is "razor sharp," writes one shopper. Adding, it's "great [for] food prep."

It "cuts beautifully," says another. "Cutting the stuffed turkey breast was like cutting butter!"

According to a third reviewer, the Cutluxe Chef's Knife is "one of the best quality" and "most comfortable" knives they have ever used, even though they own "much more expensive knives."

While the knife has garnered rave reviews, some warn that it lost its sharpness after only a few uses.


If you're looking for a razor-sharp knife with a mid-range price tag, the Cutluxe Chef's Knife could be just what you're looking for. While I love it for slicing and dicing cheese, veggies and fruit, my partner, a professional chef, sings its praises for "effortlessly" chopping tougher cuts of meat and hard vegetables. However, some reviewers say it can lose its sharpness after just a few uses — something to keep in mind when placing your order.
