Alicia Mccarvell wants to 'set the record straight' on 'cruel' relationship comments

Alicia Mccarvell is getting real about the criticism she faces for having a different body type than her husband.

On Tuesday, the Canadian influencer took to Instagram to share a set of photos posing next to her husband, Scott Mccarvell, paired with an emotional message addressing the "cruel" comments she receives online about their relationship.

In the first photo, the TikTok star included on-screen text displaying some of the hurtful comments she has gotten, including: "Girl, he's cheating on you," "He's too out of your league," and "Bro settled."

"These are the things that society thinks about fat people who are in relationships with partners who are smaller or fitter than them. This is the reality — the cruel reality," she penned in the caption.

Mccarvell explained that she and her husband are told that they're "so different," simply because "our bodies are different."

"I want to set the record straight: our relationship isn’t the problem, society is. Your relationship isn’t the problem, society is. You are worthy, your love is valid, and society can pound sand, while you pound each other," she concluded.

In the comments, fans praised the Halifax-based influencer for speaking out.

"I feel so sad for folks who really don’t understand love so they have to poke and prod with the standards they’ve lived by instead of seeing two beautiful humans in love and building a life together," penned fellow Canadian influencer Sarah Nicole Landry, a.k.a. The Birds Papaya.

"The fact that people go out of their way to be cruel will forever boggle my mind. Thankful that you continue to share your story in a society that tries so desperately to silence you," one person shared.

"This s—t hurts. Happens to me all the time with my husband—always disappointed but never surprised. Love to you both," added another.

"I love you so much for this. Keep. It. Up. You two are gorgeous and wonderful together," shared a third.

This isn't the first time that Mccarvell has felt the need to set the record straight online. After announcing a partnership with the sexual wellness brand Lovehoney back in November, the influencer shared a snap of herself and her husband in a swimming pool alongside screenshots of comments that made her feel "belittled."

"Each time I run an ad with any toy company I am belittled in my comment section with comments like 'gross,' or comments like these, basically stating that you use means I can’t possibly be satisfied by my husband," she began.

Mccarvell shared that using toys is how she "learned what I deserved in the bedroom," and "opened up lines of communication" between her and her husband.

"I’m tired of people condemning the things they don’t understand. Your shame doesn’t need to be mine," she concluded. "Also, how 'hot' or 'sexy' someone is, is not correlated to their ability to satisfy a partner. Get a grip."
