Alicia Mccarvell says 'numbers mean nothing' in body-measuring video
The influencer said this was her first time measuring her body since her 'toxic diet culture days.'
Alicia Mccarvell is breaking down the stigma of partners who are different sizes.
In a Thursday Instagram post, the Canadian body-confidence influencer shared a video of her husband Scott taking her measurements. Mccarvell stood in front of a mirror in her underwear, with Scott wrapping a tape measurer around her midriff.
Mccarvell captioned the post admitting this was her first time measuring her body since her "competition and toxic diet culture days." About a decade ago, she was participating in bikini competitions.
This time around, she was getting her measurements in preparation for her runway with Canadian brand Sisterly Swimwear.
"I have been procrastinating these because I truly wasn’t sure how I was going to feel standing there half naked again, having my body broken down into meaningless numbers," Mccarvell penned.
"I say meaningless now, because I know that those numbers mean nothing in the realm of who I am, how strong I am, and how successful I have been moving my body."
She admitted that years ago, those numbers meant everything.
I'd get these numbers, I’d compare them to the weeks before and that’s how I’d decide if my body was good or bad that week.Alicia Mccarvell
But this time, the measurements will mean her clothes will be made for her body.
"I healed a part of myself yesterday when I was able to see those numbers, and feel nothing," Mccarvell added.
She also said Scott took his measurements too, which Mccarvell "confidently" sent together.
"The difference in our size, although often the topic, means nothing when it comes to our partnership, our love, and the success of our relationship."
Mccarvell's fans rushed to the comments to praise her confidence.
"You healed yourself before these measurements girl, but yesterday you realized you’ve done it. so proud of you and happy for you!," one Instagram user wrote.
"This is something to be so proud of!," another added.
"I'm on vacation in a bikini right now and I’m just wearing it carefree. I know you know how that feels to finally just wear it and not care about what’s jiggling and rolling or whatever," someone commented.
