After World War II ended, the Harvard Five, a handful of innovative alumni of the Harvard School of Design, decided New Canaan, Connecticut, was the perfect place to experiment with modern architectural designs, producing over 80 homes with unique flair. This residence in the historic town with shoe-making history, now listed for $9.18 million, employs completely different architectural styles, however, combining Colonial and Tudor elements with a modern sensibility.
The sprawling estate at 119 Proprietors Crossing was built in 2000 by architect James E. Gearity. On- and off-the-market again since 2019, the home sits on four park-like acres. From its courtyard, you get an idea of the two-story home’s massive scale. Its exterior balances Colonial-style pitched roofing and whitewashed shingling with prominent red brick chimneys and a stone-faced ground floor that mirrors a classic Tudor build.

One of the suite’s most stylish features is its 800-square-foot, boutique-like closet with ample backlit shelf space lining the room beneath eye-catching woodwork.
