While all dogs are a joy to be around, some breeds are well-known for their non-stop wagging tails and positive personalities.
"Dog ownership has many benefits, including improving their human counterpart's mental well-being. While a dog's behaviors and attitude depend on its training, socialization and individual personality, many pedigree breeds are also known for their typical friendly character," a spokesperson from The Kennel Club tells Country Living.

1. Labrador Retriever
"Crowned as the UK's favourite breed for decades, Labrador Retrievers are famous for their positive personality and eagerness to make their owners smile," the team tell us.
"They are a versatile breed and because of this, alongside their friendly nature, they make great assistance dogs, including work as guide and therapy dogs."

2. Golden Retriever
"Similarly to Labradors, Golden Retrievers are intelligent and kind dogs, who are keen to please their owners. They are confident and friendly, and enjoy spending time around their owners and meeting both new people and dogs. Their positive energy is contagious!"
3. Cocker Spaniel
"Cocker Spaniels are notoriously known for their waggy tail and happy temperament. Their merry nature is hard to resist, making them one of the most popular breeds with owners across the UK. Despite their often relentless energy, Cocker Spaniels are gentle and affectionate dogs that shower their owners with devotion."
4. Irish Setter

"Boxers are affectionate, loyal and family-oriented dogs that also have a fearless character. Despite their confident looks, Boxers also have almost clown-like side to them and they are very friendly-natured."

"Bichon Frise is a small dog with big and happy personality. Despite their cuddly looks, Bichons are lively and outgoing dogs that enjoy spending time with their owners. "The Smooth Collie is another breed that is sadly classed as a vulnerable native breed, despite their endearing nature. Smooth Collies are also agile and active dogs that excel in canine sports like agility. They tend to have seemingly endless energy that they love to burn out on long walks."
