6 everyday office-friendly lip colours

When it comes to office-friendly colours, a lot of us love going “barely there” with nude and creamy shades. Not everyone feels comfortable wearing bright-coloured lipstick to work, but I personally avoid colours like bright reds for a different reason — to avoid numerous touch-ups during the day. Not to mention the work that goes behind pulling of a gorgeous bright, prepping, priming, lining and so on.

But natural lip colours doesn’t have to mean “plain Jane.” Here’s are a few formulas that are easy to work with and will complement any daily look with minimal touch-ups throughout the day

Mauve Lip Stain

Lip stains are great— they’re creamy and really long-lasting and pretty much always a dream to apply. Mauve is a colour that’s usually very flattering on most skin tones. It’s deeper colour adds a sophisticated touch to any makeup look and is very easy to pull off.

A Nude Gloss

When I say nude, I mean flesh-toned, not a frosty 90s pink. I think that with all the matte and lip-stain craze over the last couple of years, not many of us reach for glossy lip products anymore. They work great for when your skin and lips are feeling dry and when you don’t want to wear a lot of makeup.

The ‘My Lips, But Better”

Ahh the MLBB colour, a must-have for anyone who prefers the no-makeup makeup look. It’s a shade that is very similar to your lip colour but adds just a little more depth and intensity. While the MLBB colour is a very much an individual thing it should do the same thing for everyone — go well with everything and look natural.

Pink Berry

While a vibrant bright red is timeless, I hate constantly worrying if they’ve have feathered out, rubbed onto my teeth or need a touch up. A pink berry tone is bright and fun but natural enough that it’s not a pain to work with like reds.

Natural Nude

Some nude lipsticks can be very difficult to pull off (especially if you have a fair or very dark skin tone). Some nudes can wash out fairer complexions and darker nudes can appear ashy.

But when done right, natural nude colours are great because they complement pretty much any look. The key is to find one that works with your skin tone. I’d try to avoid using frosty formulas, anything that is drying or chalky because it can accentuate any dry parts of your lips. These are some of my favourites for fair skin.

Matte Dusty Rose

The dusty rose craze is reminiscent of the iconic, brown lip from the 90′s. The trick with a lot of these matte formulas is to apply a very thin layer to get that true, dusty colour. For a deeper shade, layer it with a darker berry lipstick. Matte formulas are also great for another reason — they’re usually pretty long-lasting so no touch ups necessary (yay)! However, they can be rather drying too (boo) so remember to moisturize your lips with lip balm before application.
