This 30-Acre Boutique Development in Northern California Embraces the Farm Life
If you’ve ever dreamed of leaving California’s bustling cities for a life on the farm, now’s your chance.
A planned community has taken shape in Sonoma County, and Robb Report got an exclusive first look at what’s being touted as the area’s first-ever “agrihood.” Set on over 30 sprawling acres near downtown Petaluma, about 40 miles north of San Francisco, the new development dubbed Live Oak Farm will deliver 14 homesites all centered around a communal farm. The goal is for residents to be able to live off the land and grow their own organic food—kind of like the ultimate farm-to-table experience, but in your backyard.

The vision began back in 2014 when Bay Area green energy entrepreneur Randy Goldstein snapped up the pastoral parcel. Roughly a century ago, the land was known as Bundesen Ranch, which produced agricultural goods like eggs and dairy products. Goldstein tapped a local custom home builder, Wright Residential, in addition to Farrel-Faber & Associates and Julie Buckner Interior Design to spearhead the project that will comprise over two dozen farmhouses and four ready-built lots once complete. Three of the newly completed residences at Live Oak Farm have just come to market starting at $3.6 million by the Tim Little + Alexa Glockner Team at Hedge Realty.

“These residences were carefully and consciously planned, built for sustainability, resilience, and energy efficiency,” notes the website. “Key features include solar panels, all electric appliances, and pre-wiring for electric vehicle charging stations and backup batteries. Durable building materials, like metal roofs and fiber cement siding, protect the houses from extreme weather and fire events.”
Each of the homes is built on two-acre homesites, positioned against the region’s sloping hills and lush forests. In fact, the exteriors of the residences are made from a mix of wood, metal, quartzite, and ceramic finishes so that the facades blend into that environment and seemingly shift with the seasons. Internally, you’ll find hardwood floors, soaring 14-foot ceilings, wall-to-wall retractable doors, and oversized patios overlooking the grounds.
Of the three residences currently for sale, the single-story 2041 Live Oak Farm Lane comprises five bedrooms and three bathrooms. Outside, there’s also a separate ADU, plus the property is fronted by its own persimmon orchard. Down the road, 2055 Live Oak Farm Lane stands two stories and holds three bedrooms and four bathrooms, and it’s decked out with a greenish, gray color palette to match the terrain and warm brass fixtures to add a trendy touch of luxury. Nearby, the three-bed, four-bath home at 2034 Live Oak Farm Lane stands out with pewter, iron, and black metal finishes.
Of course, Live Oak Farm homeowners will have access to the boutique development’s slate of amenities, including a wood, glass, and steel pavilion that will host educational events, dinners, yoga classes, and movie nights. The garden is being helmed by Sebastopol-based nonprofit Ceres Community Project, and there’s a daily farm stand.
