Bruins on course to become greatest regular-season team ever

Boston became the fastest team in history to reach 80 points in the standings after defeating the Montreal Canadiens 4-2, improving their record to 38-5-4 in the process. The previous record was set by the 1943-44 Canadiens and 1979-80 Philadelphia Flyers at 49 games. The Bruins are currently on pace for 139 points and 66 wins.

JULIAN MCKENZIE: Not only are the Boston Bruins good, they are on pace to break the single season wins record in the regular season.

OMAR: They can't lose. They cannot lose games. And when they do, they're getting points anyway. Like, what's their-- 0.848 points percentage. Are you kidding me? They can't lose.

JULIAN MCKENZIE: I have-- here's the thing about though. They could be like Tampa and Blues the first round? Maybe? It's not always a guarantee that if you're the best team in the NHL that you end up going all the way to the big dance, let alone win the whole thing, right?

OMAR: Right, Sam?

JULIAN MCKENZIE: Why did you do that? Why did you do that? That's not nice.

OMAR: Because she made her Leafs joke about two weeks ago, I didn't forget that.

JULIAN MCKENZIE: Oh, jeez. I make Leafs jokes all the time, and sometimes I don't get that type of score. Jeez.

OMAR: Yeah, but you just cover the team. You're not a fan. So it's not as fun. I rip on the Habs and you're covering the Habs, and you just be like, yeah.

JULIAN MCKENZIE: Yeah, fine, they suck.

OMAR: You're just like, yeah. You're correct.

JULIAN MCKENZIE: If you told me, oh, you can't come up with like interesting storylines about this team, that would hurt me more than saying, oh, the team sucks. So you're a crappy journalist. That hurts me. You want to get back at me, talk about my journalist acumen or whatever.

OMAR: No, that's mean.

JULIAN MCKENZIE: Exactly, you wouldn't even do that. So thank you. I appreciate that, Omar. That's why we're friends.

OMAR: Love you, buddy.

JULIAN MCKENZIE: Love you too, buddy. Any other thoughts on how the Boston Bruins are so good?

OMAR: For their sake, for the season that they have done, that they've had, I hope they-- wait. I am not going to say what I was just about to say.

JULIAN MCKENZIE: What were you going to say?

OMAR: I was going to say that based off the season they had, I hope they go far. However, I take that back.

JULIAN MCKENZIE: Because that comes at the expense of you guys.

OMAR: Yes.

JULIAN MCKENZIE: Presumably, if you get out of the first round against Tampa, of course.

OMAR: Yeah, which is-- change the playoff format.

JULIAN MCKENZIE: Yes, we got to get back to 1-8, man.

AVRY LEWIS-MCDOUGALL: Yeah, although how funny. Although this is the NHL, is the league that's known for the big number one dog you mentioned earlier going down in the first round. It'll be funny if the Bruins do get 6 to 8 wins, 11 billion points, and lose four games in the first round. I would laugh so hard to have that happen in round one.

JULIAN MCKENZIE: Who's the bottom seed in the--

OMAR: If playoffs started today, they'd face Pittsburgh.

JULIAN MCKENZIE: You know what, no. I can't do it. I had thoughts about-- no, I can't do it because last year, I thought the Penguins were going to take it to the Rangers. And goaltending let them down. The year before, they probably should have gone on a lengthy run. Goaltending let them down.

How am I supposed to trust them this year? How am I supposed to do? That they're probably going to get beat again, especially by Boston. I'm not trusting the Pittsburgh Penguins again.

OMAR: Maybe Buffalo will get there. Man, Buffalo's close.

JULIAN MCKENZIE: Oh, boy. What a tough test for Buffalo in that first round if they get Boston.

OMAR: Yeah, it's the first time you made the playoffs in eons. Here's Boston.
