The Buffalo Sabres embark on their 2024-25 regular season on Friday against the New Jersey Devils in the NHL Global Series. The club under head coach Lindy Ruff has adopted an attitude of more accountability in hopes of snapping their 13-year Stanley Cup Playoff drought, but betting prognosticators are skeptical that they can accomplish their goal.

The Sabres over/under is 88.5 points according to DraftKings Sportsbook, a number slightly below the team's total that ended up in the final Eastern Conference playoff spot the last two seasons. Florida finished the 2022-23 season with 92 points, while Washington ended last season with 91 points.

The betting line that Buffalo will make the playoffs in the Eastern Conference is +155, the same odds as the Capitals. Only Detroit (+180), Philadelphia (+220), Montreal (+750), and Columbus (+1500). The odds are considerably longer (-190) that the Sabres will miss the postseason for the 14th straight year.
The odds of the Sabres winning the Atlantic Division are +1600, ahead of only the Red Wings (+2000) and Canadiens (+8000). Florida and Toronto are considered the co-favorites to take the division title at +230.
