Here’s who national experts predict will win KC Chiefs at Las Vegas Raiders game

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid and Las Vegas Raiders interim head coach Antonio Pierce meet at midfield after the Raiders defeated the Chiefs 20-17 in an NFL football game on Monday, Dec. 25, 2023, in Kansas City.

CBS Sports has tabbed Kevin Harlan and Trent Green to call Sunday’s Chiefs-Raiders game, and there will be no shortage of storylines for the broadcasters.

“There’s definitely a lot to talk about,” Green said in a phone interview. “The thing in training camp (with the Kermit the Frog doll dressed as Patrick Mahomes). And when Mahomes said, ‘It’ll get taken care of when it’s taken care of.’ And then, after the Christmas victory that the Raiders had at Arrowhead, all the videos from inside the locker room, smoking cigars and dance parties and all that stuff. So I’m sure that will be reminded to the guys.”

Oh, and fans likely will see the Chiefs debut for receiver DeAndre Hopkins, there was hub-bub over the comments made this week by Raiders defensive back Jack Jones, and Gardner Minshew will be starting at quarterback for Las Vegas.

Will the off-field talk affect the outcome of the game? Here is who 70 experts are picking in the Chiefs-Raiders contest, which kicks off at 3:25 p.m. airs on KCTV (Ch. 5).

A 34-18 Chiefs victory is the prediction from the Sporting News’ Bill Bender. Here is part of what he wrote: “The Raiders are going back to Gardner Minshew, but will it matter? Las Vegas has a minus-9 turnover ratio in its past three games, a stretch in which the Raiders average 15.3 points per game. Yes, the Raiders beat Kansas City 20-14 last season, but the Chiefs have won the past four meetings in Las Vegas by 15.3 points per game.”

A 33-13 Chiefs win is the forecast from the Associated Press’ Rob Maaddi. Here is an excerpt from his story: “The two-time defending Super Bowl champion Chiefs (6-0) gave Patrick Mahomes a new playmaker, acquiring three-time All-Pro receiver DeAndre Hopkins. He provides another edge for Mahomes and his teammates, who will seek to avenge the Raiders’ nonsensical offseason trolling of the three-time Super Bowl MVP.”

Picking the Chiefs are all nine writers at the Athletic: Chad Graff, Zac Jackson, Ben Standig, Tashan Reed, Nick Kosmider, Michael-Shawn Dugar, Larry Holder, Josiah Turner and Josh Kendall. Here is a passage from Scott Phillips’ story: “The unbeaten Kansas City Chiefs travel to play the Las Vegas Raiders in a classic AFC West rivalry game. A statement win over the 49ers in a Super Bowl rematch in Week 7 has the Chiefs riding high. The Raiders, on the other hand, are reconfiguring after losing starting QB Aidan O’Connell to injured reserve.”

The Chiefs are the choice for all eight writers at CBS Sports: Pete Prisco, Will Brinson, Ryan Wilson, Dave Richard, Jared Dubin, Tyler Sullivan, Jamey Eisenberg and John Breech. Prisco sees a 24-10 score. Here is a snippet from his story: “Gardner Minshew, who was benched two weeks ago, is back in as the starter for the injured Aidan O’Connnell. Minshew will struggle against this good Chiefs defense. The Kansas City offense will do enough to get a tough road victory.”

Picking the Chiefs are each of the seven USA Today writers: Jarrett Bell (27-16 final score), Chris Bumbaca (24-17), Nate Davis (37-17), Tyler Dragon (27-16), Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz (28-13), Lorenzo Reyes (27-13) and Jordan Mendoza (24-12). This is what Mendoza wrote: “Kansas City is coming off one of its more convincing wins and gets to keep the momentum going against the struggling Raiders. Chiefs kingdom takes over Las Vegas again to move to 7-0.”

Going with the Chiefs are the five writers at NFL.com: Ali Bhanpuri (28-17 final score), Brooke Cersosimo (28-16), Dan Parr (30-13), Gennaro Filice (24-16) and Tom Blair (26-15). This is an excerpt of what Cersosimo wrote: “The Chiefs’ offense is slowly getting things figured out, and the trade for DeAndre Hopkins should prove huge once he gets acclimated there. There are some things to like about Las Vegas. Tight end Brock Bowers is a beast; the Raiders have found something offensively when force-feeding the rookie. Maxx Crosby should also wreak some havoc in the backfield. But Las Vegas is no match for Steve Spagnuolo’s defense — nor Mahomes and Co., even if they are still trying to get all of their ducks in a row.”

The Chiefs are the pick for each of the 11 ESPN experts: Stephania Bell, Matt Bowen, Mike Clay, Dan Graziano, Jeremy Fowler, Kalyn Kahler, Kimberly Martin, Moses Moody, Jason Reid, Lindsey Thiry and Seth Wickersham.

SiriusXM’s Bruce Murray and Rich Gannon predicted a Chiefs victory.

Taking the Chiefs are five of six Sports Illustrated writers: Albert Breer, Mitch Goldich, Gilberto Manzano, John Pluym and Matt Verderame. Taking the Raiders is Connor Orr.

The Chiefs are the choice for all eight SB Nation writers: JP Acosta, James Dator, David Fucillo, Jeanna Kelly, Brandon Lee Bowton, Jared Mueller, Ricky O’Donnell and Matt Warren.

Picking the Chiefs are both Pro Football Talk writers: Mike Florio (24-20) and Chris Simms (31-16).

The Chiefs will win, say all 10 Dallas Morning-News members: Tim Cowlishaw, Joey Hayden, Dana Larson, Damon Marx, Craig Miller, David Moore, Abraham Nudelstejer, Newy Scruggs, Kevin Sherrington and Calvin Watkins.
