Jets on the Cusp of History Following Record Start

With a win, the Blue Bombers would be headed to Hamilton for another championship game.

However, by that point in the day, it will be known if the other big professional sporting team in the city has set a league record, or not.

With Thursday evening's 1-0 shutout victory over the visiting Colorado Avalanche, the Winnipeg Jets improved to an incredible 13-1-0 on the season.

The Jets have secured wins in 13 of 14 games to start the season, tying the 2007-08 Ottawa Senators as the only other club to ever accomplish that feat in NHL history.

Should they pick up the win in their game on Sunday afternoon, the Jets would stand alone atop the league leaderboard in terms of the very best start to a season.

New head coach Scott Arniel has won 13 games and is somehow already a shoo-in for the Jack Adams Trophy as coach of the year, while reigning Vezina Trophy winner Connor Hellebuyck has 10 wins in 11 start to go alongside three shutouts - and a current streak of over two games.

Oh, and his backup, Eric Comrie? You guessed it. He has won each of his three contests.

Winnipeg will face another difficult opponent on Saturday afternoon, as fellow Central Division rival Dallas makes it way to Canada Life Centre. Finishing off a four-game homestand with three-straight divisional games has not been an easy task, despite Winnipeg's ability to keep both Utah and Colorado off the scoreboard thus far.

The Stars own an 8-4-0 record and are most certainly keeping pace within what is expected to be one of the tightest divisions across the league. With the Jets and Minnesota having been shot out of a cannon to start the year, the Stars and Avalanche will need to continue playing serious catchup in order to just stay in the hunt with the speeding pace car that is the Winnipeg Jets.
