Germany host the Netherlands as two European heavyweights go head to head in Munich tonight. Julian Nagelsmann’s side have bounced back from the disappointment of being knocked out of Euro 2024 at the quarter-finals stage by making an unbeaten start to their Nations League campaign. Germany sit top of Group A3 with seven points from three games, in which they have scored nine goals.
Die Mannschaft will be without both Kai Havertz and Jamal Musiala in attack against the Dutch due to injury, but will hope Deniz Undav can maintain his good goalscoring form after three goals in his last two games. Undav netted a brace in Germany’s 2-1 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina on Friday, which also saw a first cap for goalkeeper Alexander Nubel.
The Netherlands are just two points behind Germany after their frustrating 1-1 draw with Hungary last time out, which saw captain Virgil van Dijk sent off. With Van Dijk suspended for this game Matthijs de Ligt is expected to partner Stefan de Vrij in central defence, with Micky van de Ven shifting out to left-back again. Germany will host a ceremony to commemorate Toni Kroos, Thomas Muller, Manuel Neuer and Ilkay Gundogan after all four players retired following Euro 2024.
However, former Real Madrid midfielder Kroos will not be in attendance.
