Speaking to SPORT at a charity match that pitted the Legends of Spain against the Murcia veterans’ team, former La Liga managers Paco Jemez and Jose Antonio Camacho praised Barcelona and their start to the season under Hansi Flick.

The Blaugrana are currently the undisputed leaders of La Liga, having collected 24 points from nine matches, losing just once. They are three points clear of arch-rivals and reigning champions Real Madrid.

Flick’s Barça have not only won matches but have done so playing an attractive, eye-catching brand of football, and have been leading all sorts of attacking metrics not only in Spain but also in the Top 5 European Leagues.

Paco Jemez highlights Barcelona’s youth

Speaking at the event, Paco Jemez, the former Las Palmas and Rayo Vallecano manager, highlighted how Barcelona were not only winning convincingly but are also playing very good football on the field.

“I think Barça are not only winning convincingly, but they are playing very good football,” said Jemez.

Not stopping at that, he stressed on the number of young talents in the squad, stating that it bodes well for the Catalans’ future.

“Seeing so many young lads I think is good news for Barça’s future,” he remarked.

However, Jémez also stressed that Real Madrid are still a dangerous opponent, despite the fact that they have yet to show their best side, saying:

“We still haven’t seen the best Madrid we’ve ever seen. In the end, they’re going to be there, fighting with Barça for La Liga, and the nice thing is that they’re both paired up until the end.”

Camacho sees Barcelona as ‘very competitive’

Former Real Madrid and Spain manager Jose Antonio Camacho also gave his opinion about Flick’s Barcelona, terming them as a ‘very competitive’ team.

“It’s a team that is being very competitive. So far you can’t say anything else, it’s very competitive,” said the former national team coach.

However, he did add that the number of youngsters coming through in the team not only bodes well for the future of Barcelona but also for the Spanish national team.

“A lot of young players and with a lot of quality. This is important, that people come from behind and push forward. That’s a seed for the national team,” he said.
