Bruins bolster blue line by acquiring Hampus Lindholm from Ducks: Reports

The Boston Bruins are trying to go for another championship before their current core ages out, as they have reportedly acquired defenceman Hampus Lindholm from the Anaheim Ducks shortly before Monday’s trade deadline.

Lindholm, 28, is in the final year of his contract and will be hitting unrestricted free agency this summer, and was moved before the Ducks could figure out the reported contract extension that the two sides had been working on throughout this season.

The package that the Bruins paid for the rental’s services is not yet known, but according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman it includes at least one first-round pick and two second-round picks. Boston is cashing a significant amount of chips to fill out its blue line, which now appears to be one of its strengths.

For the Ducks, they are continuing to tear down any pending free agent they have. Despite having some early-season promise as a playoff team, they currently find themselves five points out of a playoff spot with a 27-26-11 record.

Continuing this selling trend, Anaheim traded fourth-line gritty winger Nicolas Deslauriers to the Minnesota Wild on Saturday for a 2023 third-round pick. The team just keeps accruing more and more picks and prospects to add to their current core led by the ever-entertaining Trevor Zegras and Troy Terry. At least the Ducks know who they are and where they should be heading a couple years down the road.

Lindholm has five goals and 22 points in 61 games this season while averaging 22:32 of ice time.
