Bears bring back 'Hard Knocks' fan favorite to bolster secondary
The Chicago Bears are bringing back a familiar face to help bolster their secondary. According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the Bears are re-signing veteran safety Adrian Colbert.
Colbert, who has spent part of the last two years with Chicago, emerged as a fan favorite on HBO's "Hard Knocks: Training Camp with the Chicago Bears," where his release as part of final cuts was one of the more emotional parts for general manager Ryan Poles. Now, Colbert has reunited with Poles and his teammates.
Chicago is banged up at the safety position with starter Jaquan Brisker now on injured reserve as he remains in concussion protocol after suffering his third concussion (in as many seasons) back in Week 5. With Brisker sidelined, veteran Elijah Hicks has made five starts opposite Kevin Byard.
But with Hicks suffering an ankle injury in last week's loss to the Green Bay Packers, there are depth concerns with injuries to two of their top safeties. If Hicks can't go this Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings, it'll likely be Jonathan Owens making his first start for Chicago at safety with Moore and Colbert serving as depth.
With Colbert joining the roster, Chicago's safety now consists of Kevin Byard, Jonathan Owens, Tarvarius Moore and Colbert, along with Brisker (IR) and Hicks (ankle injury).
