Yahoo Movies Sebastian Stan reflects on missing out on big Star Trek and DC roles
Sebastian Stan has opened up about missing out on big Star Trek and DC roles.
The actor, who rose to fame as The Winter Soldier in Marvel, recalled his earlier days as an actor, revealing he got close to landing the parts of James T Kirk in 2009’s Star Trek and Hal Jordan in 2011’s Green Lantern.
“There were a couple of things I didn’t get that I really desperately wanted…,” he told Happy Sad Confused’s Josh Horowitz. “But Captain Kirk for JJ Abrams, that was one of the first I got very close to.

“I remember I was really, really close, and I remember I had a screen test with [Abrams] at Paramount Studios, and my manager had me do a separate photo shoot where I would try and replicate all of these William Shatner pictures just to send to him, see how much I looked like him, but anyway, I didn’t get it.”
Opening up about screen testing for The Green Lantern, Stan added: “I remember getting there, and it was like me, Justin Timberlake, Jared Leto, Ryan Reynolds and maybe one other person, and I’m looking at these guys going, ‘I’m f**ked! There’s no way this is happening!’
“But you come close, and it wouldn’t happen, and in a way, I gotta tell you, looking back, I’m almost glad it didn’t. Because I don’t know if I could have handled that level of attention like some of those guys.”

In the end, Chris Pine and Reynolds landed the respected roles – though Stan soon scored his own breakout in 2011’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier, going on to reprise the part in a number of other projects.
The actor is pretty busy at the moment too, with appearances in black comedy A Different Man and Donald Trump biopic The Apprentice.
Meanwhile, last month Stan hit back at criticism of Marvel, telling Variety: "It's become really convenient to pick on [Marvel films]. And that's fine. Everyone's got an opinion.
"But they're a big part of what contributes to this business and allows us to have smaller movies as well."
