Netflix's Peaky Blinders movie confirms major cast returns

Netflix's Peaky Blinders movie has confirmed some major returns joining Cillian Murphy and newcomers including Rebecca Ferguson and Barry Keoghan.

Following Stephen Graham letting slip that he was returning as Hayden Stagg earlier this week, his return has been officially announced by the streaming service, alongside Sophie Rundle, Ned Dennehy, Packy Lee and Ian Peck.

Sophie Rundle was an ever-present and a main character in the BBC show as Ada Thorne, Tommy Shelby's sister, so it's not a surprise that she's back. We're still waiting to hear whether Paul Anderson will be back as Arthur Shelby.

The other three returns – Ned Dennehy as Charlie Strong, Packy Lee as Johnny Dogs and Ian Peck as Curly – are also characters that were in every series of the original BBC show.

Today's (October 11) announcement also confirmed the casting of Jay Lycurgo in the movie, but like the other newcomers, we don't yet know who he'll be playing in the movie.

The Peaky Blinders movie started production last week with Netflix releasing the first-look image of Cillian Murphy's return as Tommy Shelby.

It's a continuation of the BBC show and is set during World War Two.

Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight has written the movie which is being directed by Tom Harper, who previously directed Netflix's spy thriller Heart of Stone and also directed episodes of the first series of the show.

"It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn't finished with me," Murphy previously said of his return to the iconic role. "It is very gratifying to be re-collaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of Peaky Blinders. This is one for the fans."

Knight added: "I'm thrilled to see the cameras rolling on this new chapter of the Peaky Blinders story... The country is at war, and so, of course, are our Peaky Blinders."

The Peaky Blinders movie does not yet have a release date.
