Lewis Hamilton now has another claim to fame he can add to his lengthy list of racing accomplishments: co-chair of the Met Gala.

The Formula 1 legend has been named one of the main people in charge of the 2025 installment of the major fashion event, staged before the annual opening of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's latest Costume Institute exhibit. Hamilton will be joined by actor Colman Domingo, musicians A$AP Rocky and Pharrell Williams and of course, fashion journalist (and Met Gala founder) Anna Wintour. LeBron James, the all-time NBA leader in total points scored and a one-time 24 Hours of Le Mans starter, will serve as honorary chairman.

The event will celebrate the opening of an exhibit called Superfine: Tailoring Black Style. A specific dress code for the 2025 Gala itself has not been announced, but the eventual choice should align with the exhibit's focus.

In addition to his 105 F1 wins, Hamilton has become a genuine fashion icon in his own right. He has attended the Met Gala frequently since 2015, but his bigger impact is in how he has reshaped the relationship between fashion and racing. Hamilton often shows up for race weekends in elaborate outfits — a practice that has caught on with some of his competitors, as the relationship between auto racing and fashion deepens.

The Met Gala is set for May 5th, 2025 — conveniently for Hamilton, the day after Formula 1's Miami Grand Prix ends the category's first of three race weekends in the United States during the 2025 season. Notably, the Gala will be Hamilton's first as a Ferrari driver after joining the Scuderia from Mercedes in the upcoming off-season.
