Whether it's bacon, sugar, or even bananas, we've seen plenty of grocery prices steadily increasing over the last few years, thanks to inflation. Even Costco saw a price hike on its memberships for the first time in seven years. So, when the wholesale retailer recently shared its fourth quarter earnings for 2024, it was surprising to hear they were cutting prices on some of its popular Kirkland Signature items.

Price Reductions at Costco

Costco recently made packaging changes to its Kirkland Signature laundry detergent. By switching its packaging from a rigid plastic tub to a pouch, the company reduced plastic use by 80%, allowing the company to pass along the savings to its customers.

In addition to that, the company's Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Gary Millerchip, shared that the Kirkland Signature Boneless Chicken Tenders saw a price decrease of about 13% per pound, driving a 21% increase in sales. These cost-saving measures allowed Costco to now lower prices across its private-label brand. According to the call, we can expect price cuts for the following items:

  • Kirkland Signature Standard Foil, reduced from $31.99 to $29.99.

  • Kirkland Signature Macadamia nuts, reduced from $18.99 to $13.99.

  • Kirkland Signature Spanish Olive Oil 3-liter, reduced from $38.99 to $34.99.

  • Kirkland Signature Baguette 2 pack, reduced from $5.99 to $4.99.

  • Kirkland Signature Laundry Pack, reduced from $19.99 to $18.99.

Keep in mind that these are not temporary discounted prices, but the new permanent prices of these items. For the best Costco sales each month, keep an eye out for our monthly Costco Best Grocery Deals feature, like this month's best grocery deals, according to our editors.
