Alex Bowman Disqualified After Failing Post-Race Inspection, Logano Inherits Playoff Spot

Four hours after the conclusion of the Bank of American ROVAL 400, the No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports Chevy of Alex Bowman was disqualified for being underweight. With it, Bowman was credited with a 38th-point finish instead of an 18th, and with the loss of finish points, fell out of the eight-member playoff picture. Joey Logano, who narrowly missed the next round by four points to Tyler Reddick, will take his place in the Round of Eight.

Following the breaking news announcement,NASCAR released a video on social media of Managing Director Brad Moran explaining the disqualification.

"When we were running the No. 48 through, it didn't pass the minimum weight specs," Moran said. "So we pulled the car off to the side, and we allowed them to fuel it, which they already did. We let them fuel it again, or we let them run the pumps to make sure all pickup boxes were full. We give the teams every opportunity to try and meet minimum weight. We also have them plug in the water and run the water through the system to make sure they're full of water and we re-scale it. It still didn't meet the weight."

"Unfortantly if did not meet the minimum weight. They are allowed a half percent of weight break, which is about 17 pounds, give or take, and it was more than that."

Logano, was the only playoff driver other than Kyle Larson, who had won so far since the start of the 2024 Playoffs with his win at Atlanta but an average finishing position of 19.6 was enough to push him below the cutline.

Bowman made the NASCAR playoffs with the help of his surprise victory at the Chicago Street Race and then backed up his performance with the most stage points in the NASCAR Playoffs.

Bowman secured 10 points this Sunday by winning the second stage at the ROVAL; this was still just enough to put him eighth out of the eight drivers, 18 points below the cut line for Phoenix.
