Yahoo Autos Twin-Turbo C8 Corvette E-Ray Is A World Record Holder

When it comes to the C8 Corvette E-Ray, most people still haven’t had a chance to even drive one, let alone start tuning the hybrid all-wheel-drive American sports cars. But Boost District out of Texas has really dialed its E-Ray up, thanks in large part to the addition of twin turbos, making it the world record holder for the hybrid ‘Vette.
A Dodge Viper engine swap into a Challenger is just plain wrong.
The car has already run the quarter mile in 9.5 seconds, which is respectable. But Boost District is far from done. In the video we’ve included the shop is showing off some seemingly minor improvements which should help the twin-turbo E-Ray shave some hundredths or tenths of a second off its quarter-mile time.
New custom wheels and Mickey Thompson drag radials have been added, which that alone can make all the difference. Too many people focus just on the engine and not enough on how that power can get to the wheels and the car can hook up optimally, a key element to running an especially quick drag race.
Boost District claims this E-Ray is making 1,030-whp with the gas engine and electric motors working in tandem. That’s split between 870-hp for the rear wheels and 160-hp for the front. Some might take issue with the combined output being called whp since that’s not the same for all four wheels or even just the rear.
Chief among the non-mechanical modifications is a carbon-fiber hood, the first one made by these guys. The other tweaks are purely cosmetic, not lightweighting like the hood, so they’re not even worth mentioning here.
In the video, this modified C8 Corvette E-Ray runs a 9.38 quarter mile, shaving some time off its previous record-setting run. And it does that with zero drama off the line, just rocketing forward and pulling strong all the way to the finish line.
We can’t wait to see how far this push this build and also if others create some competitive E-Rays in the near future.
