Tacoma ProRunner: A SEMA Concept for Baja LoversToyota
  • This Toyota Tacoma has been transformed into a SEMA concept that's a TRD Pro with two doors.

  • Called the ProRunner Race concept, Toyota says it's designed to give people a taste of a race-ready Tacoma.

  • The mid-size truck features a distinctive appearance that celebrates Toyota's Baja racing history as well as pro driver Jimmie Johnson.

The Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro is a beast of a mid-size pickup truck. However, it's only offered as a four-door crew cab, which goes against the two-door-extended-cab style of the brand's famous trophy trucks, which notably include the 1990s-era racer driven by Ivan "Ironman" Stewart. To give Baja lovers a little taste of what a race-ready two-door Tacoma TRD Pro looks like, Toyota has revealed the ProRunner Race concept as part of this year's SEMA show in Las Vegas.

Not only is the show truck a two-door Tacoma with myriad parts from the TRD Pro, but it's also Toyota's chance to celebrate its new partnership with Legacy Motor Club, plus its long-standing relationship with NASCAR driver Jimmie Johnson. The ProRunner's appearance pays homage to Johnson with the number 84 engraved on the sail panels of the truck's sport bar. Meanwhile, the livery recalls the Ironman's racing legacy with TRD's iconic yellow-orange-red color scheme that's modernized among the body graphics in matte black. Underneath the decals is Mudbath paint, which is new for 2025 and exclusive to the TRD Pro.

Speaking of the TRD Pro, it donates suspension parts such as the 2.5-inch Fox QS3 internal-bypass dampers with remote reservoirs. Along with TRD upper control arms, the bottom of the truck is protected from bumps and bruises with a bunch of skid plates. Should the ProRunner concept ever go belly up, a roll cage has been installed with a set of multipoint harnesses to keep riders strapped into the TRD Pro's trick IsoDynamic seats.

The race-ready Tacoma concept's other add-ons include a spare-tire carrier mounted in the truck's six-foot bed, which also houses a fuel cell and a net that replaces the traditional tailgate to help shed some weight. Toyota's team went with chrome mirror caps and door handles to evoke some retro styling cues, and it mounted a set of intricately designed aluminum wheels on BFGoodrich tires with red, white, and blue lettering. It's a pretty rad-looking machine.
