Exotic and high-performance car enthusiasts who enjoy testing their driving acumen at high speed on a winding road course will have a new challenge in 2025 at the Ten Tenths Motor Club in Concord, North Carolina, located adjacent to Charlotte Motor Speedway.

A joint venture between Speedway Motorsports and Hendrick Automotive Group chairman and CEO and NASCAR team owner Rick Hendrick, the 100-acre complex will have a multi-purpose lighted circuit designed by Formula 1 veteran and two-time 24 Hours of Le Mans winner Alexander Wurz. Within the circuit there are three configurations: a seven turn 0.567-mile inner loop; a 13-turn 1.1-mile short course; and a 19-turn, 1.7-mile circuit, featuring 112 feet of elevation change between turns six and 14. The inner loop will be water-irrigated for testing, drifting and driver training.

The motor club will also consist of a clubhouse, a 20,000-square-foot special events facility with a 1,500-person capacity, a members’ garage featuring climate-controlled storage, cigar lounge, bourbon bar, and putting course, and off-road driving trails. Through Hendrick’s local network of service and collision centers, the facility will offer concierge vehicle maintenance and repair to nearly every exotic or high-performance car on the market.

The motor club’s grand opening is scheduled for April 4-5, 2025, during the Smith Heritage Invitational automotive experience.

“There’s a growing performance car track demand and it’s a natural for us, because we’re in the race track building business and operating business,” said Marcus Smith, president and CEO of Speedway Motorsports. “Obviously, Rick and our family (Sonic Automotive), we’re in the automotive retail business so it’s a real natural for us to be able to add this on to what we’re already doing.”

Located outside Charlotte Motor Speedway’s first and second turns, the motor club has been in the planning stage for a decade. Smith called it the most expansive property development at Charlotte Motor Speedway since zMAX Dragway was built in 2008.

Smith, longtime friend Hendrick, and Hendrick Motorsports Vice Chairman Jeff Gordon have driven at various motor clubs across the United States, including the Thermal Club in California and the Concours Club near Miami. Also, Gordon recently drove on the track in Nürburgring, Germany.

“I like this layout better than the one in Miami, the vicinity, and being able to run at night,” Hendrick said. “Thermal is a great course, but it’s kind of out by itself, and in order to be a member there you’ve got to build a $4 million house. This (Ten Tenth Club) offers so much more.”

In researching the project, Smith said he focused on things that were done well at the other motor clubs.

“The markets these clubs are in and the various challenges that every market presents, everybody found ways to overcome those challenges,” Smith said. “I don’t view this as a competitor to those club tracks. When you look at location, this location is going to be a lot more convenient for people on the East Coast and for those that choose to travel East Coast-West Coast this is just another great option for them to enjoy.”

With the club being within five miles of Hendrick Motorsports, Gordon sees it as beneficial in providing special events for its current sponsors and attracting new ones.

“We see this as being able to be an extension of something we can offer within our contracts to our partners,” Gordon said. “These days, it’s not just about being on the race car. It’s the experiences that come along with it. The NASCAR track experiences as well as the visibility on TV and from the grandstands.

“When we can bring them here and they can have a conference or a meeting … and then we can follow that up with an on-track experience where they can ride and drive, I think that is something … that is going to be huge for us.”

The Ten Tenths clubhouse is modeled after Turn 11 at Sonoma Raceway, a Speedway Motorsports property. Designed for corporate retreats, business summits, special events and entertainment, it will have the flexibility of three large individual hospitality rooms, hospitality rooms that open to outdoor patios and conference rooms with video presentation capabilities and a catering kitchen.
