IndyCar veteran Simona De Silvestro will return to Formula E as part of the global all-electric series’ Women’s Test at Valencia, Spain, on Nov. 7.
The 36-year-old Swiss-Italian driver, who has 73 IndyCar starts and experience, as well, in Australian Supercars, will represent Kiro Race Co, the newest team to join the Formula E grid.
De Silvestro competed in Formula E for Andretti Autosport/Amlin Andretti from 2014-2016, was a test driver for the Venturi team (2018-19), and served as test/development/reserve driver for TAG Heuer Porsche (2019-2023). Her IndyCar Series experience is split among VM Racing, KV Racing, Andretti Autosport, and Paretta Autosport.
Remarkably, De Silvestro will head straight to the half-day Formula E test at Valencia’s Ricardo Tormo Circuit from Sigulda, Latvia, where she is training with the Italian National Bobsled Team. She recently joined the Italian National Team, with aspirations of competing in the 2026 Olympic women’s bobsled events at Milan/Cortina.
“I’m thrilled to join Kiro Race Co. for the Formula E Women’s Test. It’s a great opportunity to work with a new team and contribute to their development. I’m excited to see what we can achieve together,” De Silvestro said.
Kiro, formerly the ERT (Electric Racing Technology) Team, will field returning racers Sergio Sette Camara and Dan Ticktum for the 2024-25 season. And it will be the third U.S.-flagged Formula E team, a property of The Forest Road Company, a Los Angeles-based investor from the media and renewable energy sectors. The other U.S.-owned teams are Andretti Global and DS Penske.
Russell O’Hagan, chief operating officer of Kiro Race Co., said, “We are incredibly excited to have Simona join our team. Her vast experience and proven track record make Simona the perfect addition to our driver lineup. We believe that her participation will play an important role in our ongoing preparation for the new season ahead, as well as inspiring our fans and the wider motorsport community.”
Jamie Chadwick, who recently completed the IndyCar Series test at Barber Motorsports Park for Andretti Global and has raced in Extreme E and Indy NXT, also will participate in the Valencia opportunity with Jaguar TCS Racing.
The test session in Spain will be the last time the teams runs their cars ahead of the opening round of the FIA ABB Formula E championship Season 11 exactly one month later, Dec. 7, at São Paulo, Brazil.
