After laying dormant since 1980, the Scout name is back with a new lineup of electric and hybrid vehicles, including the Traveler SUV.
The Traveler rides on a body-on-frame platform with a solid rear axle.
A dual-motor powertrain with an estimated 1000 pound-feet of torque provides all-wheel drive.
The Traveler also features a front anti-roll-bar disconnect and front and rear mechanical locking differentials to improve off-road capability.
The Traveler will be offered as either a pure EV or with a hybrid range-extender setup, which features a gas engine that exclusively recharges the battery and does not drive the wheels.
The range-extender setup gives the Traveler an estimated 500-mile range; without it, Scout says the SUV will travel 350 miles.
The Traveler will be rated to tow 7000 pounds and will have a nearly 2000-pound payload capacity.
Options will include a front bench seat and the Cabana Top (seen here), which folds back to let in the outside air.
Scout is aiming for the Traveler's base price to come in below $60,000.
Production of the Traveler and its Terra pickup sibling will kick off in 2027 at a new factory in South Carolina.
