The $355,000 Rolls-Royce Ghost Series II just debuted — what’s behind the price?

After 15 years, the Rolls-Royce Ghost has received a major update. The new vehicle, dubbed the Ghost Series II, follows the Cullinan, which received a “Series II” update earlier in 2024. Although the Ghost wasn’t first in line for the Series II refresh, it has pioneered many of Rolls-Royce’s current mainstays. And the new update promises its fair share of firsts, too.

Both the Ghost and its Black Badge variant have undergone style tweaks, received an infotainment boost, and now offer additional interior options. Customers considering a new Ghost can now enjoy the most comfortable, usable, and arguably stylish version of what has become one of Rolls-Royce’s most beloved vehicles.

The base Ghost sees significant upgrades

The Ghost Series II’s new illuminated Pantheon grille is likely the first feature to catch your eye. The headlight graphics have been updated, and a new Spectre-inspired tail light configuration is now part of the design. The vehicle’s suspension has also been refined, delivering an even smoother ride.

However, most of the update focuses on the vehicle’s interior. A new choreographed interior illumination sequence now greets you when the vehicle starts up. ‘Duality Twill,’ an embroidered bamboo fabric, has been added to the list of upholstery options, and “Grey-Stained Ash” appears as a new wood choice. “Reclining serenity seating” and 6.69 inches of additional rear legroom are available should you opt for the “Ghost Extended Series II.”

Infotainment gets a much-needed boost

Infotainment has received a significant upgrade, now showcased on a central display housed within a new pillar-to-pillar glass panel. Everything runs through the SPIRIT operating system, which interacts seamlessly with the Whispers private members app. The Ghost Series II promises “enhanced streaming capabilities and connectivity,” with audio output delivered through a bespoke speaker system.

The Black Badge variant introduces its own enhancements

The Ghost Black Badge edition has always been a step above the standard Ghost, offering more power, better handling, black trim, and a few extra luxury touches. So it's no surprise that the Ghost Series II Black Badge takes things to the next level. The Black Badge variant benefits from all the tweaks seen in the “silver badge” model and introduces a few unique upgrades of its own.

Cosmetically, the lower grille, bumper, and taillights have all been refined. Darkened chrome elements, a hallmark of the Black Badge trim, are featured throughout. The dark theme extends to the interior, with technical Carbon finishes and darkened metals used throughout. The vehicle sits on a set of unique seven-spoke, 22-inch, forged wheels.

Expect improved performance in the Black Badge variant

In terms of performance, the Black Badge packs an additional 29 horsepower and torque is boosted by 37 lb.-ft. The suspension system has been enhanced, and the braking system is more aggressive—so owners can drive their Black Badge Ghost Series II with a touch more vigor.

Improvements focus on ride comfort and tech

The main improvements are in ride comfort and technology. The original Ghost was already exceptionally comfortable, but making a Rolls-Royce even smoother is akin to giving a Porsche 911 an extra 50 horsepower—it’s enhancing the vehicle in a way that further elevates its core strengths. Similarly, infotainment was an area where the Ghost was arguably lacking, so improvements there are certainly welcome.

Final thoughts on the Ghost Series II update

The Rolls-Royce Ghost made its debut 15 years ago, and while it’s still an exceptional vehicle, a refresh was probably due. As is typical for the revered British marque, quality remains at the forefront of each of the new touches.

While the powertrain remains unchanged in both the standard and Black Badge versions, that’s not necessarily something that needed alteration. The 6.7-liter V12 still does everything it needs to, rocketing the Ghost from 0-60 mph in less than five seconds—assuming you insist on driving a Rolls-Royce with a heavy foot.
