On Reddit you can find all kinds of crazy things and hot takes, like why everyone just needs public buses and bicycles, not private cars. So it’s not horribly surprising that someone took to the platform to ask what kind of car an abandoned DeLorean DMC-12 is that they spotted while using Street View in Google Maps.

These are the deadliest cars in America.

What makes the post, which we spotted in the whatisthiscar subreddit, so hilarious is that even non-car people usually can identify a DeLorean thanks to the Back to the Future trilogy. But this person seems absolutely perplexed about the “sports car” they spotted using the power of Google’s imagining vans.

We don’t know where this car is or was located (maybe someone has decided to get the old thing running again by now) but it looks to be somewhere at least somewhat rural, maybe the outskirts of a city.

The DeLorean is sitting just off the road, underneath some trees with dead leaves around it. Those conditions aren’t great for vehicles, especially considering all the moisture the leaves and grass could be keep right against the chassis.

Since a house isn’t too far from the car’s resting spot, it might belong to the people who live there. Sometimes owners will store old vehicles outside. It’s not a great idea but it’s done a lot.

Or it’s possible the car was just parked there temporarily, maybe by the owner after it broke down or they needed to go relieve themselves in the woods (hey, it’s possible!).

There’s definitely a cult following for DeLoreans out there. But the old saying you should never meet your heroes does apply to these cars. Sure, they look all cool and futuristic for the 80s, but they’re slow as snot. For Back to the Future filmmakers did a V8 swap on one of the cars to shoot the action sequences, otherwise it would’ve been more like Driving Miss Daisy.

What’s even more amazing about this post is how many people correctly identified the DeLorean instead of giving crazy, ignorant statements with loads of misdirected confidence.
