Yahoo Autos Nissan Rogue to Add a Plug-In-Hybrid Model in 2025
Nissan will add a plug-in-hybrid powertrain to the Rogue compact SUV next year.
The new powertrain will be coming in 2025, likely for the 2026 model year.
Nissan also plans to launch its e-Power hybrid powertrains in the U.S. in 2026.
Nissan doesn't currently have a single hybrid model in its lineup, but that will change next year with the arrival of a plug-in-hybrid version of the Rogue compact SUV. Nissan confirmed that this Rogue PHEV will go on sale in 2025, and this will be the company's first plug-in hybrid in the U.S.
The Rogue plug-in hybrid will share components with the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, as the two crossovers share a platform; Nissan and Mitsubishi are part of the same alliance, along with French automaker Renault. That means the Rogue PHEV will likely have a similar drivetrain as the Outlander, which combines a 2.4-liter gasoline engine with two electric motors for a combined 248 horsepower. That will make the plug-in-hybrid Rogue more powerful than the standard gas model, which has a 201-hp turbo three-cylinder. The Outlander is rated for 28 miles of electric driving by the EPA, and it delivered a real-world result of 24 miles in our 75-mph highway test.
The Rogue hybrid will join the growing compact SUV hybrid segment, as many other competitors offer PHEV variants including the Dodge Hornet, Ford Escape, Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage, and Toyota RAV4.
e-Power Hybrids On Track for 2026 Launch
Nissan also plans to launch its e-Power series hybrid technology in the U.S. in 2026. These types of drivetrains are already found in many models in Nissan's global lineup and the company has been discussing its U.S. availability for years now. The e-Power setup powers the wheels using electric motors while using the gasoline engine as a generator to charge the battery. We don't yet know which models will adopt the e-Power setup, but the new 2025 Murano seems like a strong candidate, as well as the smaller Kicks and Rogue SUVs.
