Yahoo Autos Next-Gen Jeep Compass Is Coming with Gas, Hybrid, and EV Powertrains
Jeep released a sketch of the next-generation Compass, which teases the look of the new compact SUV.
The new Compass will be built on Stellantis's STLA Medium platform that's compatible with gas, hybrid, and electric powertrains.
The Compass will debut in Europe, with production starting in Italy in 2025 and North America in 2026.
Jeep's compact SUV lineup has been slowly pared down in recent years, with the Cherokee on leave and the Compass down to just four trims. Now, the company looks to rejuvenate the segment with a new-generation Compass coming in the next few years.
Jeep released a new sketch of the next-gen Compass that teases a more athletic figure than the current model. Jeep says the new Compass will be built on Stellantis's STLA Medium platform and will be available in gas, hybrid, and electric formats. The modular platform can be configured in different sizes, with wheelbases ranging from about 106 to 114 inches—meaning the Compass will grow from its current 103.8-inch wheelbase.
The current generation is powered by a 200-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that mates to an eight-speed automatic transmission and routes power through an all-wheel-drive system. While performance isn't the primary goal, it aligns reasonably well with competitors and reached 60 mph in 7.5 seconds during our testing. The Trailhawk model even adds a more advanced AWD system that includes a crawl gear and an additional drive mode. The 2025 model's starting prices range from $27,495 to $33,990.
The new Compass is set to launch first in Europe, before expanding to North America and the rest of the world. Production is slated to start in Melfi, Italy, in 2025 and expand to North America in 2026.
