For many, the dream of owning a K5 Blazer might seem ridiculously out of reach. However, if you’re willing to go with an 80s model, you can get one for a much more reasonable price. And one available on the market right now is a military 1985 M1009 with a cool matte camo exterior.
Learn how electric motorcycles are serving in the military.
If you’re not aware, the M1009 CUCV was a program called the Commercial Utility Cargo Vehicle, later changed to the Light Service Support Vehicle, for the US Armed Forces. Light utility vehicles based on consumer models, but stripped down and appropriately equipped for field operations, were utilized in different capacities.
This Chevy is a product of that program. In other words, the paint and Spartan interior aren’t just the result of someone trying to play soldier in their spare time.
After this K5 Blazer was done serving its country, someone did some worthwhile modifications to it. There’s a custom built long travel suspension with 15 inches of travel up front and 12 inches in the rear. That’s a great feature to have if you want to do some wheeling.
Complimenting that are ADS 2.5-inch shocks, plus a Dana 60 front axle and Corporate 14-bolt rear axle. Under the hood is an LS2 LQ9 6.0-liter V8 with a Holley EFI Terminator X so you can enjoy reliable starts and plenty of power. Backing that is a 4L80E transmission, so this rig could be quite rock solid – we’ll let you decide that for yourself, although the seller claims it is.
You can see from the photos, this Chevy off-roader needs some bodywork done. The seller admits that in the listing and notes the absence of bumpers, which can be cured with some steel tubing and a welding torch, if you’re so inclined, as well as many aftermarket options.
We’ll also point out this comes with tires that look to be in good condition mounted on beadlock wheels, including the spare.
Listed for just $20,000 you might find this rig is an incredible deal. Check out the listing for it on Facebook Marketplace.
