Man Gets Ticketed Thanks To The Dealership

Imagine taking a truck for a test drive from a dealership, only for police to pull over and cite you for the dealership’s oversight. That’s what happened to one man in Prosper, Texas after he visited Longo Toyota and took a new pickup out for a spin.

Thieves can’t break through dealership showroom windows.

The issue was that truck didn’t have a dealer license plate displayed. As you and everyone else undoubtedly knows, you can’t drive around on public roads without a vehicle tag. But from a WFAA report on this incident, it sounds like car dealers in Prosper have been flouting the law a lot lately.

Fed up with dealers not putting plates on rides for test drives, they’ve concluded the only thing to do is write citations to the drivers, even though they don’t own the vehicle and they weren’t the ones who didn’t put a plate on it.

All this is reportedly within the confines of the law in Texas. Why dealerships can’t be cited directly is a question everyone should be asking.

But don’t worry, this Toyota dealership really stepped up. That’s right, Longo Toyota of Prosper offered to reimburse the customer for the ticket. But he told WFAA they then added the cost of the ticket into the estimated price for the truck he was considering buying.

Can you imagine a dealership doing something so scummy? We sure can’t. Usually they just fleece you with a $4,000 charge for door edge guards or something like that.

The dealership claims this is the first time this has ever happened to them. We just wonder if that’s the case, do they have a habit of not putting license plates on vehicles for test drives?

The guy in this case didn’t buy the truck. Adding the cost of the ticket into the price quote should be a huge red flag.
